New Data on Iron-Smelting Sites in the Kuektanar and Turgun Valleys, Southeastern Altai
This paper presents the fi ndings relating to iron-smelting furnaces in the Kuektanar and Turgun valleys, which were part of the Chuya–Kurai metallurgical province in the Russian Altai, and are undergoing rapid erosion. Remains of Brown Bear (Ursus Arctos L.) From the Kaninskaya Cave Sanctuary in the Northern Urals
Fossil remains of brown bear from Kaninskaya cave in the northern Ural are described. They were accumulated during the Late Bronze Age, Early Iron Age, and Late Iron Age as a result of human activity. We analyze the composition of skeletal elements and the nature of their fragmentation. Matta, a Neolithic Burial in Central Yakutia. Results of an Anthropological Analysis
The article is dedicated to the results of a complex anthropological investigation of the Late Neolithic Matta burial complex. The burial was found in Megino-Kangalas district of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in 1996. Radiocarbon dates obtained from the human bones fall to the second half of the III millennium BC, the time when two Late Neolithic archaeological cultures — Ymyjakhtakh and Belkachi — existed in the region. This article presents the results of radiocarbon dating and a chronology of the Preobrazhenka 6 site of the Odino culture (Baraba forest steppe, western Siberia). Currently available 14 C data for the necropolis do not allow accurate determination of the presence or absence of reservoir effects, and as such, further research is needed.
