  • Couples’ Money Arrangements in Germany

    Open Access•M Raab, F Schulz•ARTICLE•Socius Sociological Research for…•2024•References: 3

This visualization illustrates patterns of income pooling among German couples using longitudinal data from the German Family Panel (pairfam), examining variations across cohorts born in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s and among different partnership types. The findings reveal that marriage is much more strongly associated with income pooling than cohabitation or living-apart-together arrangements. A generational shift is evident: Younger cohorts are…

  • When the last child moves out

Open Access•F Schulz, M Raab•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•2023

Objective To examine how mothers' and fathers' time allocation for routine housework changes when the last child moves out of the family household. Background During the transition to the empty nest, parental households are reduced to the situation before parenthood. Mothers and fathers are released from their direct parenting roles and parental time binds. This gradual transition creates a context in which housework time allocation is likely to …

  • Mothers', Fathers' and Siblings' Housework Time Within Family Households

Open Access•F Schulz•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•2021

Objective To investigate time use of housework for all members of family households, especially focusing on how time allocation varied by siblings' gender composition. Background Three knowledge gaps were addressed: the allocation of housework time between all family members; children's contributions to housework, focusing on the relevance of sibling structure; and the differences in time allocation of housework by parental education within famil…

  • Women’s Agency in Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia

Open Access•Carmen Friedrich, Henriette Engelhardt et al.•ARTICLE•Population Research and Policy…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 53

Women in Middle Eastern and North African countries continue to report low levels of agency, despite their increasing educational attainment and declining fertility rates. We address this paradox by considering how women’s agency is linked to parenthood in Egypt, Jordan, and Tunisia and how this association is moderated by their level of education. We study three dimensions of instrumental agency: involvement in decision-making, financial autonom…

  • The assessment of adipocere to estimate the post-mortem interval - a skeleton from the tidelands

Eilin Jopp-Van Well, Christa Augustin et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropologischer Anzeiger•2016

This paper discusses the discovery of a skeletonized water corpse with hollow bones filled with adipocere found in the tidelands of the river Elbe close to Otterndorf (Wesermarsch, Cuxhaven). Through macroscopic and microscopic methods, the existing adipocere was described. The post-mortem interval was assessed by a comparison of the radiocarbon data and the indications about the preservation of adipocere from the literature. The investigation ha…

  • The Private Returns to Public Office

    Raymond Fisman, F Schulz et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Political Economy•2014•Cited by: 44•References: 1

We study the wealth accumulation of Indian state politicians using public disclosures required of all candidates. The annual asset growth of winners is 3–5 percent higher than that of runners-up, a difference that holds also in a set of close elections. The relative asset growth of winners is greater in more corrupt states and for those holding ministerial positions. These results are consistent with a rent-seeking explanation for the relatively …

  • Who Contacts Whom? Educational Homophily in Online Mate Selection

    J Skopek, F Schulz et al.•ARTICLE•European Sociological Review•2011•Cited by: 38•References: 20

Data from an online dating platform are used to study the importance of education for initiating and replying to online contacts. We analyse how these patterns are influenced by educational homophily and opportunity structures. Social exchange theory and mate search theory are used to explain online mate selection behaviour. Our results show that educational homophily is the dominant mechanism in online mate choice. Similarity in education signif…

  • Was erklärt die Traditionalisierungsprozesse häuslicher Arbeitsteilung im Eheverlauf

    Daniela Grunow, F Schulz et al.•ARTICLE•Zeitschrift für Soziologie•2007•Cited by: 25•References: 6
