Fostering Students' Creative Collaboration Through Multimodal Design Within Virtual Worlds
As virtual worlds (VWs) continue to evolve, their potential to transform creative and collaborative learning in art and design education is increasingly evident. Yet, their integration into higher education curricula through multimodal design remains underexplored. This study responds to that gap by embedding VW technologies into an undergraduate Design Fundamentals course, reimagined through a design thinking framework and examined using a socia…
It’s Not Just a Matter of Time
This article explores resistance that occurred during the implementation of an Indigenous education curriculum within a teacher education program. The goal was to assist student teachers (STs) in developing a level of decolonial literacy that would help them unearth the colonial roots of their prior Indigenous education. Multiple data sources (STs written reflections, email communications, and researcher observations), were analyzed using narrati…
Straining to Hear the Singing
Assuming that intergenerational singing curricula can facilitate well-being through the production of expansive learning opportunities and relationship-building between skipped generations, this study aimed to discover the prevalence, form, and characteristics of intergenerational singing programs in a 50 kilometer radius of one urban center in Ontario, Canada. Of the 170 organizations serving children and older adults with the potential to offer…
Multiple Stereotypes of Stepfathers
Three separate studies were conducted to determine whether university students hold multiple stereotypes of stepfathers. In the first study, 116 undergraduate students were asked to list all of the traits that are typically associated with stepfathers. After semantically similar traits were grouped together, 77 distinct traits (45 negative and 32 positive) remained. In the second study, 34 undergraduate students were asked to sort the 77 traits f…
