Stripteasers: The Anatomy and Career Contingencies of a Deviant Occupation
The initiation of and commitment to deviance involves an interaction between the characteristics of the individuals, their experiences, and a number of situational conditions. Thus becoming deviant is a process which includes a series of “career contingencies” on which completion of the process depends. Lesbian Behavior as an Adaptation to the Occupation of Stripping
Simon and Gagnon have drawn attention to the importance of linking patterns of homosexual behavior to nondeviant behavior or roles. A complementary perspective is suggested wherein the choice of sexual object is influenced by structural factors, as appears to be the case in the total institutional setting.
