  • Ontologies relevant for improving data interoperability for food loss and waste

Open Access•Matthew Lange, Matthew C Lange et al.•ARTICLE•Cleaner and Responsible Consumption•2025

Food loss and waste (FLW) is a global challenge. Interoperable FLW ontologies will foster more comprehensive data sharing and inform better solutions to reduce and recover excess food and to valorize wasted food and food byproducts. This review reveals that only eight ontologies currently address FLW with most emphasizing valorization. Notably, few are designed explicitly to support FLW reduction, and none facilitate food recovery, which is criti…

  • Differential effects of a stakeholder-informed intensive perinatal eHealth behavioral weight gain intervention between non-Hispanic Black and non-Hispanic White individuals

    Open Access•Kaja Falkenhain, Chelsea L Kracht et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Behavioral Medicine•2025•References: 27

BACKGROUND: Aberrant gestational weight gain (GWG) increases the risk of adverse perinatal outcomes such as preterm birth; these poor outcomes are disproportionately higher in non-Hispanic Black individuals relative to White individuals. Lifestyle interventions effectively manage GWG but often fail to reach those most in need. "Healthy Beginnings," a co-developed intensive perinatal eHealth behavioral weight gain intervention, successfully enroll…

  • Meal composition during an ad libitum buffet meal and longitudinal predictions of weight and percent body fat change

    Open Access•Tera L Fazzino, James L Dorling et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 33

  • The Effects of Alcohol Consumption on Cardiometabolic Health Outcomes Following Weight Loss in Premenopausal Women with Obesity

    Open Access•John W Apolzan, Robbie A Beyl et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Alcohol (i.e., ethanol) is consumed regularly by much of the adult population; yet, the health effects associated with its use are not well-characterized. Clinical interventions to investigate the effects of moderate alcohol consumption on metabolic outcomes, including adiposity and cardiovascular risk factors, are limited and have yielded conflicting data. In addition, no study has reported the effects of routine alcohol intake during weight los…

  • Change in self-efficacy, eating behaviors and food cravings during two years of calorie restriction in humans without obesity

    Open Access•James L Dorling, Manjushri Bhapkar et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 45

  • Maternal Pre-Pregnancy Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Offspring and Grandoffspring Health

    Open Access•Emily W Harville, John W Apolzan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Both maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and gestational weight gain have been associated with cardiovascular health in the offspring beyond two generations. A total of 274 daughters (aged 12−54) of 208 mothers who participated in the Bogalusa Heart Study were interviewed about their reproductive history. Mothers' data was taken from the original study, and cardiovascular measures at the visit prior to pregnancy were correlated with daug…

  • Examination of the reliability and validity of the Mindful Eating Questionnaire in pregnant women

    Open Access•John W Apolzan, Candice A Myers et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 36

  • Rapid onset and reversal of peripheral and central leptin resistance in rats offered chow, sucrose solution, and lard

    Open Access•John W Apolzan, Ruth B S Harris•ARTICLE•Appetite•2013•References: 47

  • The effects of diet on the consumption of sucrose solution and lard and the development of obesity
