  • A qualitative systematic review of individual differences in Stroop task performance among healthy adults

Open Access•Nicola Vasta, Claudio Mulatti et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2026

  • Making trigger-action rules more comprehensible

Open Access•Margherita Andrao, Barbara Treccani et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Trigger-Action Programming is a commonly used paradigm in End-User Development interfaces, allowing users without programming experience to create new automation systems. Even if considered easy to grasp, this approach poses some challenges: non-programmers often confuse events (instantaneous occurrences) and states (prolonged occurrences), leading to critical errors in the definition of triggers. Although past research has already questioned the…

  • Do psychological traits influence the perceived usefulness of rule recommendations in configuration tasks

Federica Cena, Cristina Gena et al.•ARTICLE•Behaviour and Information…•2025

In this paper, we describe an empirical evaluation of the user's perceived usefulness of recommendations for configuration tasks in a smart home scenario. Our results suggest that while overall recommendations help improve the performance in the task, the psychological traits of Self-efficacy and Need for Cognition play an important role in determining the perceived usefulness of the recommendations. These effects are somehow different from those…

  • Bicultural bilinguals

Open Access•Silvia Purpuri, Barbara Treccani et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Purpose and research questions: Despite the amount of existing work about bilingualism and some interesting studies about biculturalism, research somehow lacks interest in considering these two aspects as one big reality, bicultural bilingualism. The aim of this article is to bridge the gap between the linguistic and the cultural components that build bicultural bilinguals and to show the importance of taking into account these two components tog…

  • Beyond the foreign language effect

Open Access•Silvia Purpuri, Nicola Vasta et al.•ARTICLE•Bilingualism Language and Cognition•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 32

This study investigated the impact of reading statements in a second language (L2) versus the first language (L1) on core knowledge confusion (CKC), superstition, and conspiracy beliefs. Previous research on the Foreign Language Effect (FLE) suggests that using an L2 elicits less intense emotional reactions, promotes rational decision-making, reduces risk aversion, causality bias and superstition alters the perception of dishonesty and crime, and…

  • Sequential modulation of (bottom–up) response activation and inhibition in a response conflict task

Open Access•Josie Castle, Barbara Treccani et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Research•2018

Many cognitive tasks involve a response conflict between the response selected on the basis of the task-relevant attribute and that primed by an irrelevant attribute. Although response priming has been extensively investigated, we still have little evidence on whether it entails both excitatory and inhibitory processes and the way in which these processes are modulated by the prior occurrence of a conflict between-response alternatives. To shed l…

  • Cognitive Advantage in Bilingualism

Open Access•Angela De Bruin, Barbara Treccani et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Science•2015

It is a widely held belief that bilinguals have an advantage over monolinguals in executive-control tasks, but is this what all studies actually demonstrate? The idea of a bilingual advantage may result from a publication bias favoring studies with positive results over studies with null or negative effects. To test this hypothesis, we looked at conference abstracts from 1999 to 2012 on the topic of bilingualism and executive control. We then det…
