  • Affective forecasting dynamics as an early intervention target in depression: Evidence from ecological monitoring and temporal network analysis

Open Access•Zhuoya Yang, Xuanang Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2026

Our findings reveal provide novel insights into the psycho-physiological mechanisms of affective forecasting deficits in depression, with several clinical implications: (1) dysfunctional affective forecasting dynamics may serve as salient early warning signs and sensitive predictors of depression; and (2) improving the flexibility of affective forecasting may be a promising target for addressing depression

  • Differential directional effects between insomnia symptoms and suicidal ideation across trait depression levels: A cross-lagged network analysis among Chinese medical undergraduates

Open Access•Jingxuan Zhang, Xiaolin Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2025

Insomnia symptoms exacerbate SI by impairing daytime functioning and emotional regulation, with trait anhedonia serving as a critical node. Personalized interventions targeting specific insomnia symptoms (e.g., AIS6, AIS7 or AIS8) and suicidal emotional factors (e.g., OPT or DSP) are crucial disrupting feedback loops or critical connections to reduce suicide risk, particularly in individuals with varying levels of trait anhedonia. Although medica…

  • The mental health of Chinese military personnel: A cross-sectional epidemiological study

Open Access•Jing Kou, Kaiyuan Jing et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

The prevalence of mental health problems among Chinese military personnel has remained at a relatively low level, but our data still suggest that a significant number of individuals in the Chinese military population are affected by mental health issues. It is crucial for military units, society, and the nation to continuously prioritize the mental well-being of soldiers and provide them with more mental health care services

  • A feasibility study of goal-directed network-based real-time fMRI neurofeedback for anhedonic depression

Open Access•Xiaoxia Wang, Xiaoyan Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2023

Our pilot study found that depressed individuals depended less on goal-directed (GD) reward learning (RL), with reduced reward prediction error (RPE) BOLD signal. Previous studies have found that anhedonia is related to abnormal activities and/or functional connectivit…

It remains unclear if the mild symptoms are associated with mild perceived stress and mental illness, and the interventions to improve the mental health of the patients are rarely reported. Methods: This cross-sectional study investigated the level of depression, anxiety a…

  • Impulsiveness indirectly affects suicidal ideation through depression and simultaneously moderates the indirect effect: A moderated mediation path model

Open Access•Jingxuan Zhang, Xiaolin Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

The present study confirms that people who have impulsive traits are riskier to generate suicidal thoughts because they are more likely to suffer from depression and that people who are depressive have even higher risk to develop suicidal thoughts when they simultaneously have impulsive traits. In clinical and health care work, when considering depression to prevent suicidal ideation, impulsiveness needs to be monitored throughout the process of …

  • Network Analysis of the Relationship Between Trait Depression and Impulsiveness Among Youth

Open Access•Jingxuan Zhang, Kuiliang Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2022

The present study confirms the complex associations among facets of trait depression and impulsiveness, finding that "cognitive" impulsiveness and "trait dysthymia" are the two key factors in the network. The results imply that different facets of impulsiveness should be considered respectively regarding anhedonia and dysthymia. "Cognitive" impulsiveness and "trait dysthymia" are critical to the prevention of depression
