  • Disciplining the “Queen of the World”? Responsible Innovation as a Way of Life

Open Access•Xavier Pavie, Ghislain Deslandes et al.•ARTICLE•Business Ethics, the Environment…•2026

This paper offers a critical reflection on the concept of responsible innovation as defined during the last decades. We argue that the emphasis on innovation as a process risks neglecting the very goals of innovation, namely societal desirability and acceptability. Thus, we suggest reconsidering the role of imagination, the “Queen of the world” as Blaise Pascal put it, to propose an alternative way to responsible innovation and to redefine the pr…

  • Présentation

    Ghislain Deslandes•ARTICLE•Cités•2025

The breakup of the Yugoslav Federation, initiated by Slovenia and Croatia in 1991, provided a dramatic backdrop to the latent deepening of the Kosovo crisis. In 1994-1995, to stop the war in Bosnia, the West formed the Contact Group, an important multilateral body that would assume a crucial role in resolving this crisis in 1998. The Contact Group took its final form only at the end of 1995, when Italy joined its other members – the United States…

  • Idea of Beginning in Jules Lequier's Philosophy

Ghislain Deslandes•BOOK•Idea of Beginning in Jules…•2023

The Idea of Beginning in Jules Lequier's Philosophy analyzes the work of an author mostly unknown in Anglophone countries, but who greatly influenced the trajectory of French philosophy over the last two centuries. Jules Lequier, in The Search for a First Truth, argues that beginning such a search is the goal towards which philosophy must tend. To achieve this, Lequier established a postulate, that of freedom against necessity, and set out a prog…

    Open Access•Ghislain Deslandes•ARTICLE•Organization Studies•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 1

This article demonstrates the pre-eminent position which the term oikonomia (household management) occupied in the first few centuries of Christian theology, opening up avenues which have been left virtually unexplored by modern management scientists. This first level of analysis reveals that the essence of management is inevitably associated with the concepts of non-power, burden and weakness. I then pursue this line of inquiry to look at the ro…

  • Authentic leading as relational accountability: Facing up to the conflicting expectations of media leaders

    Open Access•Mollie Painter‐Morland, Ghislain Deslandes•ARTICLE•Leadership•2015•Cited by: 1•References: 20

This research is focused on understanding the ethical implications of conflicting expectations faced by leaders in the media industries. Though the “blended leadership” approach proposed by Collinson and Collinson discusses the existence of these conflicting expectations, we argue that work remains to be done on how this impacts leaders’ authenticity and accountability. Can leaders who respond to these varied demands still consider themselves aut…

  • Gender and visionary leading: Rethinking ‘vision’ with Bergson, Deleuze and Guattari

    Open Access•Mollie Painter-Morland, Mollie Painter‐Morland et al.•ARTICLE•Organization•2014

In this article, we investigate the charge that women leaders fall short when it comes to ‘vision’. We track the roots of this charge, and the effects this has on women in the workplace, back to the binary representationalist logic that underpin gender stereotypes. We challenge these representationalist stereotypes by offering a more material account of how identities come into being, drawing on the work of Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari. In t…
