The advantages of being disadvantaged
Although many contributions examine how individuals and various entities (e.g., organizations and countries) manage to obtain a (competitive) advantage, there is a knowledge gap on how to make the best of disadvantages. Using notably the theories of self‐enhancement and psychological reactance, the existing literature has explained the mechanisms that can motivate and support an entity to get out from a disadvantageous position. Das Auto. A case for anomic globalization through Volkswagen’s ‘Made in Germany’ label

Second, the…

The MPA aims at stopping copyright violations by framing materially and discursively markets. For this reason, it maintains a worldwide spectrum of relations with other business associations, workers of the motion picture industries and governments. These relationships …
Transnational Firms and the Knowledge Structure
This paper demonstrates how the study of knowledge can strengthen the analysis of transnational corporations and globalisation through the case of the Walt Disney Company. Disney is emblematic because its prosperity is founded on both global and intergenerational reception, integration and consumption of its products and its imageries. Its transnational preponderance is observed by taking into account its socio-economically grounded power, its in…
The Paradox of Anti-Americanism
This article deals with the seeming paradox of lasting American power and global anti-Americanism, which brings into question the relevance of the concept of soft power. Indeed, discontent over the current hegemon does not affect the consumption of its goods and the diffusion of its symbols. The contradiction results from the state-centric perspective of traditional scholars which does not shed light on the diverse aspects of American supremacy. …
