  • Hormonal underpinnings of narcissism in women

Open Access•Jeremiasz Górniak, Marcin Zajenkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2025•References: 20

  • Emotional processes underlying national narcissism

Marta Rogoza, Marta Marchlewska et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Social Psychology•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Within the current manuscript, we assumed that national narcissism should be linked to poor emotion recognition skills and negative emotionality. In a series of four mixed-methodology studies, we found positive relations between national narcissism and one's own impairment of emotion recognition, lower levels of facial emotion recognition, and higher levels of antagonistically oriented emotions. We also demonstrated that an inability to recognize…

  • More identified so less envious? On the links between different types of national identity and in-group envy

Oliwia Maciantowicz, Marta Marchlewska et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Social Psychology•2024

We investigate relations between benign and malicious in-group envy and the two types of national identity (i.e. secure national identification vs. national narcissism). In two studies (Ns = 1000 and 633), we found that secure national identification was negatively linked to malicious envy, while national narcissism was positively related to both malicious and benign envy. In Study 2, we additionally analyzed how in-group envy and two types of na…

  • Induced narcissism increases self-assessed intelligence

Open Access•Marcin Zajenkowski, Constantine Sedikides et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2022•References: 21

We examine the causal direction of the relation between (grandiose agentic) narcissism and self-assessed intelligence (SAI). We manipulated narcissism with a validated procedure. In Studies 1–2, high (vs low) narcissism increased SAI. In Study 2, SAI mediated the effect of narcissism on academic goal-pursuit, expected academic achievement, and psychological wellbeing. The findings have implications for the nature of SAI and for gender differences…

  • Narcissus locked in the past

Open Access•Marcin Zajenkowski, Radosław Rogoza et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2021•Cited by: 3•References: 67

We examined how the perception of past events might contribute to the understanding of vulnerable narcissism. Across seven samples (NGrand = 1271), we investigated the association between vulnerable narcissism and individual differences in negative view of the past as well as how both were associated with basic personality traits, intrapersonal (i.e., affect, life satisfaction, and self-esteem) and interpersonal (i.e., anger, and hostility) outco…

  • Emotional experiences in vulnerable and grandiose narcissism

Oliwia Maciantowicz, Marcin Zajenkowski•ARTICLE•Self and Identity•2020

Objectives: This paper presents four independent studies examining emotional experiences in grandiose and vulnerable narcissism across neutral and anger-evoking situations, controlling for the shared variance between neuroticism and vulnerable narcissism. Methods: In Study 1 and 2, we explored the associations of vulnerable and grandiose narcissism with temporary anger and mood in neutral situations. In Study 3 and 4, we examined participants' res…

  • Too great to act in solidarity

Open Access•Paulina Górska, Alexander Stefaniak et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2020•Cited by: 21•References: 89

Three studies examined the association between narcissistic identification with one’s advantaged in‐group and engagement in solidarity‐based collective action. Drawing on theory and past research, a negative effect of collective narcissism on solidarity‐based collective action was expected. A two‐wave longitudinal study ( N = 162) found that Polish participants’ narcissistic, but not secure, national identification decreased their willingness to …
