A scoping review of emotion and non-cognitive measures of decision-making ability in older adults by the ARMCADA study
Introduction: Decision-making is a complex form of cognitive function that declines with age and is highly susceptible to impairment from dementia due to Alzheimer's and related neurogenerative diseases. Emotions and other non-cognitive assets are also believed to influence decision-making ability. The Advancing Reliable Measurement in Cognitive Aging and Decision-making Ability (ARMCADA) research initiative seeks to understand how measures of em…
Age-related differences and commonalities in remembering earliest memories
We investigated age-related differences and commonalities in earliest memories, focusing on retrieval speed, recollection type (remember vs. know), retrieval type (direct vs. generative), age at the time of the event, and phenomenological characteristics. The sample consisted of 131 adults: 68 young adults (48.5% males; Mage = 20.29, Sage = 1.53) and 63 older adults (47.6% males; Mage = 68.43, SDage = 4.11). They reported their earliest memories,…
Measures of healthcare decision-making ability in cognitive aging
Introduction: Declines in decision-making (DM) ability are often observed with increasing age and pose significant risk for negative health, financial, and functional outcomes. The Advancing Reliable Measurement in Cognitive Aging and Decision-making Ability (ARMCADA) research initiative aims to improve measurement of DM ability in aging to facilitate early detection of cognitive and functional decline. This scoping review summarizes the extant l…
On the retrieval of earliest memories
Earliest memories were examined with respect to recollection type (i.e., remember-know), retrieval type (i.e., direct-generative), retrieval speed, and memory fluency (i.e., phonemic, semantic, and autobiographical). A total of 137 young adults (94 females; Mage = 20.47, SDage = 1.57) reported their earliest memories and specified their recollection and retrieval types for reported memories. They further dated their recollections by reporting the…
Factorial structure of autobiographical recollection assessed by a Turkish version of Autobiographical Recollection Test (ART)
Fear of Sleep Inventory- Short Form (FoSI-SF)
When the UPPS-P Model of Impulsivity Meets a Revised Approach
There is inconsistency in the measurement of impulsivity resulting from the diversity in its conceptualization. We aimed to develop a revised measure based on the Urgency, Premeditation (lack of), Perseverance (lack of), Sensation Seeking - Positive Urgency (UPPS-P) model (i.e., TRUE Multidimensional Impulsivity Scale; TRUE-MIS) considering the limitations and strengths of the existing measures. We conceptualized impulsivity as a personality trai…
