  • Convergence in the Neet rates across the European Union

    Open Access•Guillermo Orfao, Chiara Mussida et al.•ARTICLE•Socio-Economic Review•2025•References: 12

This study traces gender convergence in the share of young people (15-29) who are not in employment, education, or training (NEET) across the EU-27 from 2004 to 2022. Using EU Labour Force Survey micro-data and Eurostat aggregates, we estimate β-, σ-, and δ-convergence. The results point to a clear narrowing of the average gender gap (upward β-convergence). While overall cross-country dispersion has not fallen (no σ-convergence), a catch-up proce…

  • The Efficient Triangle

Eleonora Bartoloni, Maurizio Baussola et al.•ARTICLE•Review of Political Economy•2024•References: 4

The impact of exports on productivity is a central theme in macroeconomics, explored in both the ‘learning by exporting’ and ‘Kaldor-Verdoorn law’ literature. We utilize a novel dataset of Italian firm microdata to build an empirical model examining the effect of persistent exporting on firm productivity. The model endogenizes a firm's export propensity using a probit specification that enables us to derive consistent estimates of the impact of e…

  • Being a Neet before and after the Great Recession

    Open Access•Miguel Ángel Malo, Chiara Mussida et al.•ARTICLE•Socio-Economic Review•2021•Cited by: 4•References: 5

This article adds to the scant literature on the time persistence of being a young Not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) by including four main novelties: we distinguish short- and long-term persistence; we use estimations before (2004–2007) and after the Great Recession (2013–2016); we analyse four Southern European countries that are relatively similar and were significantly affected by the Great Recession (Greece, Italy, Portugal and…

  • Modelling a Regional Economic System

    Maurizio Baussola•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2007•References: 1

Baussola M. (2007) Modelling a regional economic system: the case of Lombardy, Regional Studies 41, 19–38. During recent years the demand for quantitative economic investigation to be used for policy analysis has grown rapidly. In addition, the European economic and monetary integration process has increased the economic impact of regional economies, thus calling for analytical instruments aimed at supporting the decision-making process. A region…
