Hydrological changes and landform evolution since the Bølling-Allerød interstadial in the Eastern Great Rann of Kachchh, India
The post-glacial (Bølling-Allerød) sedimentary archive preserved in the Eastern Great Rann of Kachchh (EGRK) is used to reconstruct the pattern of Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) variability, landform evolution, and the impact on the Indus Valley Civilization (IVC). Employing the sedimentology, geochemistry, and chronology supported by statistical analysis, four major phases of strengthened and weakened monsoon conditions are inferred. The pattern of…
Climatic history from early Weichselian (MIS 5D-C) valley-fill deposits and associated factors for basin sedimentation, mainland Kachchh, western India
Mid-late Holocene climatic reconstruction from coastal dunes of the western Kachchh, India
Holocene climate events and associated land use changes in the eastern coast of India
The Holocene arid events and related societal responses are important scientific inquiries due to concerns about their reoccurrences in the future. In the Indian subcontinent, significant number of studies have focussed on understanding the Holocene aridification events at 8.2 and 4.2 ka. Despite these studies, high resolution palaeoclimatic records from the eastern India during Holocene, particularly around the above-mentioned aridification even…
Causes and implications of Mid- to Late Holocene relative sea-level change in the Gulf of Kachchh, western India
The relict intertidal deposits from the Kharod River Estuary, Gulf of Kachchh, and the distal end of Kori Creek are used to infer the Mid- to Late Holocene relative sea-level (RSL) change in western India. Employing sedimentology, geochemistry, palynology, ichnology, and optical and radiocarbon dating, the study suggests the dominance of fluvial activity between 16.5 ± 1.6 and 9.9 ± 0.7 ka. After ~7 ka (7.3 ± 0.4, 6.8 ± 0.5 ka), the sea level sho…
New evidence of early Iron Age to Medieval settlements from the southern fringe of Thar Desert (western Great Rann of Kachchh), India
Optically stimulated luminescence ages from the Lake Agassiz basin in Manitoba
Geomorphic analysis and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) ages from undated Lake Agassiz beaches and adjacent fluvial sediments on Riding Mountain in Manitoba provide insight into their early history. New OSL ages of 14.5±2.4 and 13.4±0.7 ka on the oldest (Herman to Norcross) beaches of Lake Agassiz near the Canada-U.S. border indicate that the Laurentide Ice Sheet (LIS) retreated from that part of the Agassiz basin by ~14.5 ka. To the nort…
Early Middle Palaeolithic culture in India around 385–172 ka reframes Out of Africa models
Optical dating of late Quaternary carbonate sequences of Saurashtra, western India
Bioclastic carbonate deposits that formed because of a combination of nearshore marine, fluvial, and aeolian processes, occur along the Saurashtra coast and in the adjacent interior regions of western India. Whether these carbonates formed by marine or aeolian processes has been debated for many decades. The presence of these deposits inland poses questions as to whether they are climate controlled or attributable to postdepositional tectonic upl…
Reconstruction of Late Quaternary climate and seismicity using fluvial landforms in Pindar River valley, Central Himalaya, Uttarakhand, India
Mid-Holocene extreme hydrological events in the eastern Great Rann of Kachchh, western India
