  • Freshwater reservoir effect for mollusks in the lower and central Murray River, Australia

Open Access•Chloe A Stringer, Vladimir Levchenko et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2026

Since the 1950s, archaeological research conducted along the middle reaches of the Murray River has relied on radiocarbon dating of freshwater mollusk shell to establish the chronology of human occupation within this region as well as support larger models of human occupation timing within Australia. Despite this, there has been no investigation into the potential freshwater reservoir effect (FRE) for the middle reaches of the Murray River. In th…

  • Multi-regional calibration of Patella caerulea as a palaeothermometer using oxygen isotope values and Mg/Ca ratios

    Open Access•Danai Theodoraki, M A Mannino et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2026•Cited by: 1•References: 53

This study presents a comprehensive calibration of the Patella caerulea as a palaeotemperature archive across the Central and Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on Mg/Ca ratios and δ18O values. We analysed 131 modern specimens collected from 22 localities, with a focus on the Aegean region. Our results demonstrate strong correlations between Mg/Ca ratios and the temperature proxy δ 18 O shell , with a mean R2 value of 0.89. These findings reinforce …

  • New chronology for Ksâr ‘Akil (Lebanon) supports Levantine route of modern human dispersal into Europe

    Open Access•Marjolein D Bosch, M A Mannino et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2015

Significance Bayesian modeling of AMS radiocarbon dates on the marine mollusk Phorcus turbinatus from Ksâr ‘Akil (Lebanon) indicates that the earliest presence of Upper Paleolithic (UP) modern humans in the Levant predates 45,900 cal B.P. Similarities in early UP lithic technology and material culture suggest population dispersals between the Levant and Europe around 50,000–40,000 cal B.P. Our data confirm the presence of modern humans carrying a…

  • The Cyrenaican Prehistory Project 2013

    Open Access•Lucy Farr, Ross Lane et al.•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•2014•Cited by: 3•References: 15

The paper reports the preliminary results from the short season of fieldwork that the Cyrenaican Prehistory Project was able to undertake with a small Anglo-Libyan team in September 2013. The work concentrated on continuing the excavation of Trench M down the southern side of the Middle Trench and of Trench D on the southern side of the Deep Sounding below it, the eventual objective being to link these so as to provide a high quality dataset of s…

  • The Cyrenaican Prehistory Project 2012

    Open Access•G Barker, Paul Bennett et al.•ARTICLE•Libyan Studies•2012•Cited by: 12•References: 18

The paper reports on the fifth (2012) season of fieldwork of the Cyrenaican Prehistory Project. The primary focus of the season was the continuation of the excavation of the prehistoric occupation layers in the Haua Fteah cave. A small trench (Trench U) was cut into Holocene (Neolithic) sediments exposed on the south wall of Charles McBurney's Upper Trench. Below this, the excavation of Trench M was continued, on the southern side of McBurney's M…

  • The Cyrenaican Prehistory Project 2010

The paper reports on the fourth (2010) season of fieldwork of the Cyrenaican Prehistory Project, and on further results of analyses of artefacts and organic materials collected in the 2009 season. Ground-based LiDar has provided both an accurate 3D scan of the Haua Fteah cave and information on the cave's morphometry or origins. The excavations in the cave focussed on Middle Palaeolithic or Middle Stone Age ‘Pre-Aurignacian’ layers below the base…
