The Structural Violence of Indigenous Suicide Prevention Policies in Canada
Indigenous peoples in Canada suffer from very high suicide rates of which there are various state-created programmes and efforts to combat. However, the variety of these programmes may be limited in their conceptions of Indigenous suicide. I predicted that by analysing existing suicide prevention policies and frameworks, I would find that they systematically place Indigenous peoples in vulnerable positions through the enforcement of Western ideal…
Handbook of Leaving Religion
The Handbook of Leaving Religion introduces a neglected field of research with the aim to outline previous and contemporary research, and suggest how the topic of leaving religion should be studied in the future. Section one provides the reader with an introduction to key terms…

Plato
Plato (Πλάτων)(I)(c. 429–347 B.C.), son of Ariston and Perictione, both Athenians of distinguished lineage. His writings show the enormous influence that Socrates had upon him both by his life and by his death. He relates in his Seventh Letter that the spectacle of contemporary politics, during the ascendancy of his own associates as well as under the democracy, gradually weakened his original intention to become a statesman and drove him to the …

Africa and the Victorians: The Official Mind of Imperialism
Imperialism in the eyes of the world is still Europe’s original sin, even though the empires themselves have long since disappeared. Among the most egregious of imperial acts was Victorian Britain’s seemingly random partition of Africa. In this classic work of history, a standard text for generations of students and historians now again available, the authors provide a unique account of the motives that went into the continent’s partition. Distru…
The Imperialism of Free Trade
I It ought to be a commonplace that Great Britain during the 19th century expanded overseas by means of “informal empire” as much as by acquiring dominion in the strict constitutional sense. For purposes of economic analysis it would clearly be unreal to define imperial history exclusively as the history of those colonies coloured red on the map. Nevertheless, almost all imperial history has been written on the assumption that the empire of forma…
