  • Multivariate analyses of shape variation for genetically distinct groups

    Open Access•Susan R Wilson•ARTICLE•Human Evolution•1990•Citada por: 1

  • The analysis of g -isonymy data

    Open Access•Susan R Wilson•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1981

g-Isonymy is defined to be generalized isonymy, and is taken to be two (or more) individuals who have the same surname (clan name) and who are related through marriage, although they are not necessarily married to one another. A general method for analysing g-isonymic data is proposed. It is shown how the random and non-random components of the frequency of g-isonymy can be obtained as well as the subcomponents due to preference for or against cl…

  • The genetics of leprosy

    Open Access•S W Serjeantson, S Serjeantson et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of Human Biology•1979

Population and family distributions of leprosy in the Bogia Subprovince of Papua New Guinea have been examined for evidence of inherited susceptibility to the disease. Evidence for multigenic inheritance of leprosy severity is provided by the restriction of pleiotropy with red-cell enzyme 6PGD phenotypes to a single clinical form of leprosy and by the superior fit of pedigree data to a multifactorial, rather than single-gene model, of inheritance…

  • Implications of Border Cave Skeletal Remains for Later Pleistocene Human Evolution [and Comments and Reply]

    G P Rightmire, Peter Beaumont et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1979•Citada por: 51•Referências: 13

Recent excavations have helped to clarify the cultural and stratigraphic sequences at Border Cave, and human skeletal remains recovered at this South African site may well be associated with a Middle Stone Age industry. A partial adult cranium is of particular interest, and this was originally described as quite different both from African Negro and from Bushman individuals. Eleven measurements were taken on the fossil, and these provide a basis …

  • Procedures for Comparing and Combining Radiocarbon Age Determinations

    Open Access•G K Ward, Graeme Ward et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1978•Citada por: 348•Referências: 5

Archaeologists, along with other Quaternary researchers, seldom rely upon a single radiocarbon determination to provide an estimate of the age of the phenomenon which is the object of their study. There is an evident need for an explicitly formulated procedure for comparing sets of radiocarbon determinations from the same and from adjacent strata or sites, and for combining these where statistical and archaeological criteria indicate that this co…
