Inhaling the Other: Pneumatic intimacies and the racialization of breath
This article takes up the notion of pneumatic commons (Cervenak 2016) and explores breathing as a collective practice of being-in-common (Mbembe 2021), with particular regard to its colonial history as a practice of resistance. The concept of pneuma is developed to examine the entanglement between breathing as a shared practice, on the one hand, and the history of its racialization, on the other. ‘Inhaling the Other: Pneumatic intimacies and the …

Taking the recent relational turn in the discussion on care as a point of departure this contribution aims to ask: What are ways of a critical artistic practice that take care seriously as a challenge to the theatre apparatus, its aesthetic, its dramaturgy and to the way it thinks-with bodies, objects, materiality and more-than-human ways of existence? In which ways can performance find other modes of representation for that which matters within …

As such, our conversation explores how filmmaking emerges through contingent and negotiated relations between filmmakers and film subjects, dif…

This article takes into account contemporary discourses on the end of (anthropocentric) time in the wake of colonial extraction and environmental destruction and asks for other ways of representing time beyond the dominant Western representational paradigm of human-centric time. Is another representation of time, or at least of its rupture even possible without reaffirming the self-referential dialectic it aims to overcome? Is there a way out of …
