  • A Rhodian Bride in Inland Northwestern Anatolia (?)

    Open Access•Erkan Fi̇dan, Emre Erdan•ARTICLE•Gephyra•2025

The paper examines an unexpected fibula find from the Bahçelievler (in Bilecik) site, notable for its Neolithic artifacts. A bronze fibula bearing a button attachment was discovered during salvage excavations at this small yet highly significant site in inland Northwestern Anatolia. The fibula, discovered beside a collection of pottery, an unidentified wall, and burnt soil, is among the few Rhodian fibulae recorded in literature. The fibula, depo…

  • Tunç Çağı Tavşanlı Höyük Yerleşiminin Hayvansal Geçim Ekonomisi

Open Access•Derya Silibolatlaz Baykara, Mustafa Kenan Agras et al.•ARTICLE•Gaziantep University Journal of…•2025

  • Preliminary result of archaeological and petrographic classification of Neolithic pottery from Bahçelievler settlement in Northwestern Anatolia

Open Access•Savaş Sarıaltun, Savaş SARIALTUN et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2024•References: 5

In prehistoric archaeology , pottery is a significant fragment in defining and making sense of the culture. The pottery forms and the differences in the variety of decorations are used together with other archaeological elements in the stratification of the settlement at the local scale. Bahçelievler settlement is located in the southeast of the Marmara Sea and in a mountainous area, unlike many other settlements with similar cultural characteris…

  • Different manifestations of Neolithization in Northwest Anatolia

    Open Access•Hüreyla Balcı, Rana Özbal et al.•ARTICLE•Documenta Praehistorica•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 11

The Neolithic way of life was first established in Northwest Anatolia before the middle of the 7th millennium BC. The recently excavated sites of Barcın Hoyuk and Bahcelievler have yielded archaeological evidence for the earliest Neolithic levels in the region and provide new archaeobotanical datasets. To compare different adaptations to the changes brought on by the Neolithization processes, we studied 348 archaeobotanical samples from Phases VI…

  • Patterns of metal procurement, manufacture and exchange in Early Bronze Age northwestern Anatolia

Open Access•Michele Massa, Orlene McIlfatrick et al.•ARTICLE•Anatolian Studies•2017•Cited by: 2

This paper adds a new interpretive layer to the already extremely well-investigated site of Demircihüyük, a small Early Bronze Age settlement at the northwestern fringes of the central Anatolian plateau. It presents a reassessment of the evidence for prehistoric mining in the region, as well as a new programme of chemical composition analysis integrated with an object functional and technological typology of the site's metal assemblages. The resu…

  • An Overview of the Western Anatolian Early Bronze Age

    Open Access•Erkan Fi̇dan, Deniz Sarı et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Archaeology•2014•Cited by: 11

For a long time, assessments and evaluations of the western Anatolian Early Bronze Age (EBA) have only been based on the excavation results of Tarsus, Karataş-Semayük, Beycesultan, Demircihüyük, and Troy. However, excavations and surface surveys carried out in the last two decades have increased our knowledge enormously. In particular, the excavations of Liman Tepe, Küllüoba, and Seyitömer have made an immense contribution to the establishment of…
