  • Contemporary Colonialities in Mexico and Beyond

Cara Kinnally, Alejandro Mejias-Lopez et al.•BOOK•Contemporary Colonialities in…•2024

Contemporary Colonialities in Mexico and Beyond explores the changing dynamic of coloniality by focusing on how modern cultural products connect to the foundational structures of colonialism. The book examines how these structures have perpetuated discourses of racial, ethnic, gender, and social exclusion rooted in Mexico's history. Given the intimate relationship between coloniality and modernity, the volume addresses three central questions: Ho…

  • Gestación, perspectivas e historiografía del descubrimiento de América

Pablo García, Pablo García Loaeza•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•2020

In keeping with the European academic style, most of the 12 essays included in this collection favor showing over telling, informing over elucidating. Several authors underscore the dearth of archival data related to the circumstances surrounding Christopher Columbus's voyages, which helps explain why many of the contributions appear speculative or address minutiae and tangential matters. After the editor's summary prologue, the chapters are orde…

Pablo García, Pablo García Loaeza•ARTICLE•Ethnohistory•2019•Cited by: 1•References: 11

This article considers the interplay among interpretation, intent, and ingenuity involved in don Fernando de Alva Ixtlilxochitl's transcoding of the Codex Xolotl in the first part of his definitive work, the Historia de la nación chichimeca, by way of his earlier Sumaria relación de todas las cosas de la Nueva España. • Telling violence

    Pablo García, Pablo García Loaeza•ARTICLE•Journal of Iberian & Latin…•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 5

In May 1520, on the day of the Feast of Toxcatl, a troop of Spaniards assaulted the Templo Mayor, the main temple in Mexico-Tenochtitlan. The incident was a turning point in the conquest of Mexico. In spite of this, the circulating descriptions have not been properly read against the primary documental sources or the historiographic antecedents that challenge their assertions. A survey of these sources suggests that the popular perceptions of the…
