Bayesian Convergence for Computably Bounded Agents
In this article, we pursue two goals. First, we argue that computable probability theory offers a fitting framework for modeling the credences of computably bounded—and, thus, more realistic—Bayesian reasoners. Second, we develop a Bayesian perspective on algorithmic randomness: a branch of computability theory that provides a formal account of what it takes for a sequence of observations (a data stream) to be probabilistically typical in an algo…
Foundations of Practice
This case study offers an in-depth analysis of the foundational role of documentation for software quality, efficiency, and organizational success. It includes an inside look how a start-up overcame inefficiencies and scaling challenges by implementing a sociotechnical documentation practice, and 10 recommendations for implementation or assessment based the case study data and a wider analysis of research and expertise. Time pressures of agile wo…
The Ethnographer in the Machine
The growing use of artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled research tools in qualitative research has generated new and novel ways for researchers to interact with AI in data analysis, such as through the application of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) algorithms on qualitative datasets. With the advancement of AI technologies, and its sensationalization within broader culture, sociotechnical entanglements have become incr…
China and India’s participation in global climate negotiations
The Roar of the Lion City
Although the Singapore Armed Forces is one of the most technologically advanced militaries in Southeast Asia, it suffers from a number of institutional weaknesses. Singapore's multiethnic but Chinese-dominated society and unique geographical and political characteristics result in challenges in both the recruitment and retention of high-quality personnel into the armed forces as well as in developing the proper role in the military for Singapore'…
