  • Tree-Ring-Based Spring Temperature Patterns over the Past Four Centuries in Western Himalaya

    Open Access•Ram R Yadav, Jayendra Singh•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2002

A network of 12 tree-ring width chronologies of Himalayan cedar ( Cedrus deodara ) from the western Himalayan region, India, has been used to reconstruct mean spring (March–May) temperature variations back to A.D. 1600. The most conspicuous feature of the temperature reconstruction is the long-term cooling trend since the late 17th century that ended early in the 20th century. The warmest 30-yr mean for the 20th century was recorded during 1945–1…

  • Spring-temperature variations in western Himalaya, India, as reconstructed from tree-rings

    Open Access•Ram R Yadav, Won-Kyu Park et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•1999•References: 2

The Himalayan region plays a very important role in influencing the regional and extra-regional circulation system. Long-term instrumental or proxy climate records for this region are scant, but are essential for a global perspective of climate variability. A 598-year (AD 1390-1987) reconstruction of spring (March-May) temperature has been derived for the first time for the western Himalayan region, India using a well replicated ring-width chrono…

  • Dendroclimatic Reconstruction of April–May Temperature Fluctuations in the Western Himalaya of India Since A.D. 1698

    Open Access•Ram R Yadav, Won-Kyu Park et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1997

Ring-width chronologies of Himalayan cedar ( Cedrus deodara (D. Don.) G. Don.), Himalayan pine ( Pinus wallichiana A. B. Jackson), and Himalayan spruce ( Picea smithiana (Wall.) Boiss.) from the western Himalayan region, India, have been used to reconstruct mean April–May temperature back to A. D. 1698. The reconstruction correlates significantly with the average April–May instrumental temperature record ( r = +0.62, 1876–1988) and is characteriz…

  • Dendroindications of recent volcanic eruptions in Kamchatka, Russia

    Open Access•Ram R Yadav•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•1992

Precisely dated tree-ring sequences of larch (Larix cajanderi Mayr) extending from 1801–1980 ad from Kamchatka lying in the far east of Asian continent were studied to see the influence of volcanic eruptions on tree growth and to assess the potential of tree rings for dating ancient volcanic events. Nearby volcanic events are clearly reflected in ring-width patterns. Distinctly narrow rings are formed in the year following the year of eruption. W…
