  • Evaluation of a sexual health approach to reducing HIV/STD risk in the transgender community

    Walter Bockting, W O Bockting et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2005

Despite reports of high prevalence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among the transgender community, very little prevention education has targeted this population. To fill this gap, we developed and evaluated a transgender-specific intervention, All Gender Health, which incorporates prevention strategies into comprehensive sexuality education. Transgender participants (N=181) attended the two-da…

  • Risky sexual behavior in low‐income African American women

Beatrice “bean” E Robinson, Karen Scheltema et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2005•Cited by: 6•References: 6

In a sample of 163 low-income African American women, we used logistic regression analyses to test for associations between (a) 5 operationalized constructs theorized in the Sexual Health Model to impact one's overall sexual health (barriers to healthy sexuality, sexual anatomy and functioning, positive sexuality, sexual health care, and cultural identity) and (b) several measures of risky sexual behavior (consistent condom use, multiple concurre…

  • Airbag and Seat Belt Safety Knowledge in Health Professionals and Laypeople

  • Masculinity Scores as an Artifact of Feminist Attitude

    Barbara Finlay, Karen E Scheltema et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Homosexuality•1999•Cited by: 2•References: 15

Data from a sample of lesbian women (n = 58) and college women (n = 129) are analyzed to examine the relationship between feminism (AWS), sexual orientation, and a PAQ-defined masculinity score. While lesbians have higher M scores, they also have very high AWS scores. When AWS is controlled in a multiple regression analysis, the difference on M scores between the two sexual orientation groups disappears. The results support the hypothesis that hi…

  • Attitudes of U.S. and Czech/Slovak mental health and health professionals toward five types of sexually explicit materials

Open Access•Beatrice “bean” E Robinson, Karen Scheltema et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•1996•Cited by: 1•References: 47

  • The Relation of Gender and Sexual Orientation to Measures of Masculinity, Femininity, and Androgyny

Barbara Finlay, Karen E Scheltema et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Homosexuality•1991•Cited by: 11

Data from a survey of 58 gay men and 58 lesbians are compared to college men and women on Spence and Helmreich's (1978) Personality Attributes Questionnaire measures of masculinity, femininity, and androgyny. Lesbians had higher M scores than college women, and gay men had lower M scores than college men, with F scores being similar across sexual orientation groups, within gender. Androgyny measures differed only by gender, not by sexual orientat…

  • Improving Intergroup Relations

Stephen Worchel, Stephen W Worchel et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychology Quarterly•1989•Cited by: 2
