A Roundtable on Greer Lankton Convened by Francesca Granata, with Elspeth Brown, Freyja Hartzell, and Cyle Metzger
Greer Lankton: Modeling, Doll-Making, Transfemininity, and Biopolitics in the 1980s East Village
The article examines the work of Greer Lankton (1958-1996), an artist associated with the 1980s East Village, whose practice spanned categories of performance, sculpture, fashion, and craft. It does so through a combination of methods: archival research, visual and material analysis and oral history. The article foregrounds the ways in which Lankton engages with fashion modeling and fashion dolls as sites of biopolitical formation of ideal femini…

Fair Funding Decisions: Consistency of the Time Horizons Used in the Calculation of Quality-Adjusted Life Years for Therapies for Very Rare Diseases by the National Institute for Health and Care Excel…
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in England uses quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) to assess the cost-effectiveness of treatments. A QALY is a measure that combines the size of the clinical benefit of a treatment with the time the patient benefits from it, i.e., the time horizon. We wanted to know how consistently QALY gains are calculated at NICE. Therefore, we have analysed information on the time horizons used for…
Quality-Adjusted Life Years in Erythropoietic Protoporphyria and Other Rare Diseases: A Patient-Initiated EQ-5D Feasibility Study
Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is an ultra-rare inborn error of metabolism characterised by painful phototoxic burn injuries after short exposure times to visible light. Patients with EPP are highly adapted to their condition which makes the quantification of their health-related quality of life (QoL) challenging. In the presented patient-initiated feasibility study, we describe a new approach to assess treatment benefits in EPP by measuring…

Autistic people may have difficulties in finding and keeping a job. Studies highlight that only 34% of autistic people are employed compared to 54% of people with disability. 58% of people with ASD have never had a job. Social cognition and cognitive strains may also have a significant impact on working life. The primary goal of our project is supporting autistic people through a training program focused on neuropsychological and social skills tr…
They Had Interpreted “Disability” as Referring to a Patently Visible Disability’: Experience of a patient group with Nice
Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) is an ultra-rare genetic disorder characterised by intolerance to visible light. Starting in early childhood, people with EPP suffer from social isolation, impaired educational and occupational opportunities, and low quality of life. Afamelanotide is the only effective and approved therapy for EPP. In England, its cost-effectiveness is currently assessed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence …
Fashioning Cultural Criticism: An Inquiry into Fashion Criticism and its Delay in Legitimization
The article interrogates the reasons behind the delay in legitimization of fashion criticism as articulated within the domain of journalistic writings, particularly in relation to other forms of popular culture criticism, such as film or music. Fashion remains, in the words of one prominent fashion critic, “culturally beneath regard” within the hierarchies of cultural criticism. The article investigates the gender specificity that contributed to …
Fashion Studies In-between: A Methodological Case Study and an Inquiry into the State of Fashion Studies
The article discusses the challenges in creating a multi-methodological approach to doctoral theses that take the study of fashion as their subject. Using my doctoral thesis on the Bakhtinian grotesque in fashion at the turn of the twenty-first century as a case study, the article highlights the need for the inclusion of theories and methods from a wide variety of disciplines and fields of studies. It also sets up a comparison between fashion stu…
