  • Israel-Arab Muslim children’s socioemotional functioning at kindergarten and during the Covid-19 pandemic

Lena Kabha, Tzlil Einziger et al.•ARTICLE•Developmental Psychology•2025

Self-regulation (SR; emotion-related, and behavioral), executive function, and theory of mind (ToM) all play an important role in child socioemotional functioning (SEF). However, much remains unknown about the interplay among these abilities when facing various challenging situations. Additionally, the role of these abilities in child SEF has not yet been studied among minority children from an Eastern culture. Thus, we conducted one study with t…

  • Beyond Infant’s Looking

    Open Access•Andrea Berger, Michael I Posner•ARTICLE•Perspectives on Psychological…•2023

Contemporary conceptualizations on infant cognitive development focus on predictive processes; the basic idea is that the brain continuously creates predictions about what is expected and that the divergence between predicted and actual perceived data yields a prediction error. This prediction error updates the model from which the predictions are generated and therefore is a basic mechanism for learning and adaptation to the dynamics of the ever…

  • From early risk via cognitive functioning to ADHD phenotype

  • Dissociating Slow Responses From Slow Responding

Open Access•Gayatri Salunkhe, Bernd Feige et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Increased Intra-Subject Variability (ISV) is a candidate endophenotype of ADHD. ISV's relationship with response speed is highly relevant for ADHD as patients are highly variable but typically no slower than controls. This brief report addresses the relationship between variability and speed by employing dimensional analyses for differentiated performance measures, with a particular focus on the ex-Gaussian measures, across relevant ADHD studies …

  • Disrupting North Korea’s Military Markets

    Andrea Berger•ARTICLE•Survival•2016

North Korea’s defence-export industry remains both active and profitable. Dissuading capitals from doing business with Pyongyang will require special attention to the clients’ specific circumstances

  • Training in basic Internet skills for special target groups in non-formal educational settings - conclusions from three pilot projects

Open Access•Andrea Berger, Jutta Croll•ARTICLE•Research in Learning Technology•2012

With the progress of Digital Inclusion, it becomes important to address marginalised groups that face specific barriers in being part of the information society. From 2009 to 2011 within the framework of the nation-wide Initiative Internet erfahren, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics, Stiftung Digitale Chancen has accompanied three pilot projects and researched the hindrances and motivations of specific target groups including you…

  • Sleep patterns of 7‐week‐old infants at familial risk for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

Open Access•Rivka Landau, Avi Sadeh et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2010•References: 48

Sleep patterns of 26 seven‐week‐old boys at familial risk for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and 18 control infants were compared by objective (actigraph) and subjective (maternal sleep diary) measures, over five consecutive 24‐hr periods. Actigraph findings indicated that the groups differed on stability ( SD ) of quiet sleep only during the day. Reports in maternal sleep diaries indicated that they also differed on stability of…

  • Parenting of 7‐month‐old infants at familial risk for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder

Open Access•Rivka Landau, Miri Avital et al.•ARTICLE•Infant Mental Health Journal•2010•Cited by: 2•References: 46

Patterns of interaction between parents and 7‐month‐old boys at familial risk for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and a comparison group were studied during a warm‐up and two play episodes. The sample included 78 (47 at‐risk, 31 comparison) mother–child and 45 (27 at‐risk, 18 comparison) father–child dyads. A coding system developed by G. Kochanska (1997, 1998) was used. Infants in the risk group did not differ from the comparison…

  • The Early College High School Initiative

Andrea Berger, Nancy Adelman et al.•ARTICLE•Peabody Journal of Education•2010•Cited by: 5•References: 1

In 2002, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation started the Early College High School Initiative (ECHSI). Through this initiative, more than 200 Early College Schools (ECSs) opened by fall 2009. All of the schools aim to provide underserved students access to college classes while in high school. This article will provide an overview of the first 6 years of the ECHSI, and key findings across 5 years of the ECHSI evaluation, in particular highlightin…

  • Costs and satisfaction in close relationships

    Open Access•Andrea R Berger, Andrea Berger et al.•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2006

Two studies were conducted to clarify the pattern of mixed results found in past research regarding the association between costs and satisfaction in close relationships. Insights from Prospect Theory (D. Kahneman & A. Tversky, 1979, 2000) suggested the importance of gain–loss framing in understanding costs. When costs are attached to valued outcomes, they are perceived as gains or investments; otherwise they are perceived as losses. Appreciation…
