Low threshold for nitrogen concentration saturation in headwaters increases regional and coastal delivery
River corridors store, convey, and process nutrients from terrestrial and upstream sources, regulating delivery from headwaters to estuaries. A consequence of chronic excess nitrogen loading, as supported by theory and field studies in specific watersheds, is saturation of the biogeochemically-mediated nitrogen removal processes that weakens the capacity of the river corridor to remove nitrogen. Regional nitrogen models typically assume that remo…
Framing Discourse on the Environment: A Critical Discourse Approach
In this study, Richard Alexander presents a series of original and empirically based case studies of the language and discourse involved in the discussion of environmental and ecological issues. Relying upon a variety of different text types and genres – including company websites, advertisements, press articles, speeches and lectures – Alexander interrogates how in the media, press, corporate and activist circles language is employed to argue fo…

Attachment style and coping resources as predictors of coping strategies in the transition to parenthood
The relations among adult attachment style, coping resources, appraised strain, and coping strategies were examined in a prospective study of married couples having their first child ( N = 92). Attachment and coping resources were measured during the second trimester of pregnancy, and parenting strain and coping strategies were assessed when the babies were about 6 weeks old. Results supported a theoretical model proposing that attachment is pred…
Pattern rate and interpattern interval in development of matching simple auditory-visual patterns
Assessed the possibility that previous failures to find evidence of more rapid inter- than intramodal development of matching of simple auditory and visual patterns have occurred because of the exclusive use of slow patterns and short interpattern intervals. In Exp I 32 1st- and 32 3rd-grade boys were compared in inter- and intramodal matching of fast or slow spatiotemporal patterns with long or short interpattern intervals. In Exp II the same co…
