  • Nonresponse in Organizational Surveying

    John Kulas, John T Kulas et al.•ARTICLE•Public Opinion Quarterly•2017•Cited by: 1•References: 7

In this study, survey nonresponse is researcher specified and data simulated to evaluate its impact on error and bias in attitudinal ratings. We accomplish this by scaling densities of (non)response probabilities to a survey's item metric and using these now conditional probabilities to sample from known attitudinal distributions. The illustrative context we choose for our simulations is intra-organizational surveying (within which attitudes towa…

  • Are costly apologies universally perceived as being sincere

Yohsuke Ohtsubo, Esuka Watanabe et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Evolutionary Psychology•2012•Cited by: 11•References: 14

After inadvertently committing an interpersonal transgression, an offender might make an effortful apology (e.g. cancelling an important meeting to make an apology as soon as possible). Such costly apologies signal the apologiser's sincere intention to restore the endangered relationship. The present study investigated this costly signalling model of apology across seven countries (Chile, China, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, South Korea and …

  • California Psychological Inventory Dominance Scale Measurement Equivalence

Open Access•John Kulas, John T Kulas et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2011

The California Psychological Inventory’s Dominance scale was investigated for inconsistencies in item—trait associations across four samples (one American normative and three culturally dissociated manager groupings). The Kim, Cohen, and Park procedure was used, enabling simultaneous multigroup comparison in addition to the traditional differential item functioning focus on paired-group contrasts. Framing comparisons within Hofstede’s cultural di…

  • Islands of Deutschtum, German Americans in Manchester, New Hampshire and Lawrence, Massachusetts, 1870-1942

John Kulas, Robert Paul McCaffery•ARTICLE•The German Quarterly•1998

This first-rate portrayal of Germans in two small New England cities is a welcome addition to German-American historiography.Previous scholars failed to recognize the significance of German immigration in the region. In The Westfalians: From Germany to Missouri (1987), historian Walter D. Kamphoefner determined that a relatively large portion of skilled Germans from industrialized Saxony had immigrated to New England during the late nineteenth cen…
