Global Healthcare Resource Efficiency in the Management of Covid-19 Death and Infection Prevalence Rates
The scale of impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on society and the economy globally provides a strong incentive to thoroughly analyze the efficiency of healthcare systems in dealing with the current pandemic and to obtain lessons to prepare healthcare systems to be better prepared for future pandemics. In the absence of a proven vaccine or cure, non-pharmaceutical interventions including social distancing, testing and contact tracing, isolation, and…
Monetary policy and wealth inequality in South Africa
This paper examines the relationship between monetary policy and wealth inequality in South Africa. We employed a unique database of tax administrative data which allowed us to account for individual heterogeneity. These tax data span from 2011 to 2017 and include over 3 million individual taxpayers in South Africa after data cleaning. Results based on fixed- and random-effects panel model estimates show that monetary policy generally increases w…
Dynamic and Asymmetric Response of Inequality to Income Volatility
Effect of economic growth on CO 2 emission in developing countries
This study investigated the effect of economic growth on CO2 emission using the dynamic panel threshold framework. The analysis is based on data from a panel of 31 developing countries. The results indicate that economic growth has negative effect on CO2 emission in the low growth regime but positive effect in the high growth regime with the marginal effect being higher in the high growth regime. Thus our finding provides no support for the Envir…
Evaluating the Performance of Maize Farmers in Nigeria Using Stochastic Distance and Stochastic Production Frontiers
This study estimates the technical, allocative and cost efficiency of farm households using stochastic distance and stochastic production frontiers. Further, the study examines determinants of efficiency. Data was collected from a random sample of 240 maize farmers in Benue State Nigeria using structured questionnaires. Results from both distance and production frontiers show that farmers in the area are inefficient. Although the efficiency measu…
