Bisexual Epistemologies: A Journey from Nausea to Commitment
This occasional piece captures the experience of being a guest editor for four issues of the Journal of Bisexuality, from 2003 to the present time. It is also a reflection on that experience. What there is to learn from it in terms of creating a culture of research on bisexuality that empowers people to live authentic lives—and fulfill Fritz Klein's promise of a healthy bisexuality whose gift to the world is the joy of 100% intimacy. The article …
Bisexuality, Gaia, Eros: Portals to the Arts of Loving
This article presents bisexuality as a portal to the arts of loving where Eros, the energy of love, is recognized as what makes Gaia, the third planet Earth, alive. It is a reflection on the author's experience as a keynote speaker at BiReCon, and as a participant in BiReCon and BiCon. 1 1. Plural Happiness: Bi and Poly Triangulations in Balasko's French Twist
This article proposes bi and poly reading of the film French Twist (1995) based on salient points of queer theory, including mimetic desire, homosexual panic, the apparitional lesbian, the triangularity of desire and the figure of two-in-one. These theories are adapted and expanded to explain the bisexual and polyamorous practices of love observed in the film, including compersion or the ability to love those who love our lovers. The three main c…

Sacred Bi Love: An Erotic Journey
This story is about sacred eroticism in the context of globalization. It is about Gaia and Jean-Luc, a bi and poly woman originally from Italy and a Catholic priest from Africa. They meet in central Italy in the summer 2000, while in Rome the first world gay-pride parade is getting under way. Both are used to navigating world cultures and regions. She has spent her adult life in the United States as a student, teacher, bi activist, sex educator, …
The Lie with the Ounce of Truth: Lillian Hellman's Bisexual Fantasies
This article focuses on the bisexual fantasies of playwright and memoirist Lillian Hellman. It analyzes the 1934 Broadway success, The Children's Hour, and the short story “Julia,” in her second memoir (1973), turned into a film in 1976. Both works are organized around a bisexual triangle of two women and one man, with one woman positioned as a bisexual, the other as a lesbian. The first is the autobiographical character, who understands her posi…

Is Feminism Realism Possible? A theory of labial eros and mimesis
This article establishes a correlation between Aristotle's concept of mimesis and the two concepts of modern realism and linear narration, which, with good reason, have been attacked as phallic by many feminist theorists. The correlation is established on the basis of my analysis of the narrative structure of the play Oedipus Rex, and of the reasons why Aristotle might have chosen it as his main example to illustrate his theory in The Poetics. Wh…
