Open Access•Piwuna Christopher Goson, Uchechukwu L Osuagwu et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

This study highlights significant spatial clustering of anxiety and depression among FHWs in Nigeria, with the highest burden in Southeastern states. Nurses and FHWs with fewer years of practice were particularly vulnerable, indicating the need for targeted mental health interventions. Those with a prior history of psychological distress had lower odds of experiencing anxiety and depression, suggesting potential resilience or coping mechanisms. T…

  • Acceptance of Covid-19 vaccine among sub-Saharan Africans (SSA): A comparative study of residents and diasporan dwellers

Open Access•Chundung Asabe Miner, Chikasirimobi G Timothy et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Differences exist in the factors that influence COVID-19 vaccine acceptance between local SSA residents and thediasporan dwellers. Knowledge about COVID-19 vaccines affects the uptake, resistance, and hesitancy to the COVID-19 vaccine. Information campaigns focusing on the efficacy and safety of vaccines could lead to improved acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines

  • The impact of information sources on Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy and resistance in sub-Saharan Africa

Open Access•Uchechukwu L Osuagwu, Khathutshelo Percy Mashige et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

We found that all six information sources except radio were strong predictors of the resistance towards COVID-19 vaccination. Further research on how these channels can be used to improve the availability of reliable healthcare information is needed. Investments in these resources will protect people and empower them to make appropriate choices about their health

  • Analysis of Perception, Reasons, and Motivations for Covid-19 Vaccination in People with Diabetes across Sub-Saharan Africa: A Mixed-Method Approach

Open Access•Uchechukwu L Osuagwu, Raymond Langsi et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with severe COVID-19 infection and complications. This study assesses COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and hesitancy in people with DM, and explores the reasons for not being vaccinated. This was a web-based cross-sectional survey using a mixed-method approach conducted in March-May 2021, corresponding to most Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries' early vaccine rollout period. Participants were those aged ≥18 years …

    Open Access•Uchechukwu L Osuagwu, Chikasirimobi G Timothy et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

This study investigated risk perception of contracting and dying of SARS-CoV-2 in sub-Sahara Africa during and after the lockdown periods. Two online surveys were conducted one year apart, with participants 18 years and above living in sub-Sahara Africa or the diaspora. Each survey took four weeks. The first survey was taken from 18 April to 16 May 2020, i.e., during the lockdown. The second survey was taken from 14 April to 14 May 2021, i.e., af…

  • Under-5 Mortality and Its Associated Factors in Northern Nigeria: Evidence from 22,455 Singleton Live Births (2013–2018)

Open Access•Osita Kingsley Ezeh, Felix Akpojene Ogbo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

The northern geopolitical zones (NGZs) continue to report the highest under-5 mortality rates (U5MRs) among Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. This study was designed to identify factors related to under-5 mortality (U5M) in the NGZs. The NGZ populations extracted from the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey were explored to assess the factors associated with U5M using logistic regression, generalised linear latent, and mixed models. Betwee…
