The Lake Krasnoe obsidian source in Chukotka (Northeastern Siberia): Geological and geochemical frameworks for provenance studies in Beringia
Inter-laboratory validation of the WDXRF, EDXRF, ICP–MS, NAA and PGAA analytical techniques and geochemical characterisation of obsidian sources in northeast Hokkaido Island, Japan
Remains of a Puzzle: The Distribution of Volcanic Glass Artifacts From Sources in Northeast China and Far East Russia
Previous geochemical studies of volcanic glass artifacts dating to the Late Palaeolithic in northeast Asia have revealed a wide distribution of artifacts from sources in China, Korea, and Far East Russia. Through an analysis of lithic technology, this study sheds new light on the variety and complexity of the social, technological, and landscape factors that shaped the long distance movement of stone artifacts
Obsidian provenance for prehistoric complexes in the Amur River basin (Russian Far East)
Innovations in Microblade Core Production at the Tigrovy-8 Late Palaeolithic Quarry in Eastern Russia
The importance of innovative behavior in highly resource-poor seasonal environments is highlighted by the flexible stone working technology at the Tigrovy-8 late Pleistocene basaltic glass quarry, recently discovered in the Primorye region of eastern Russia. Although risky, investing time and energy in developing new flaking techniques was particularly important in this setting, because multiple strategies could help prevent failure in acquiring …
Obsidian use at the Ushki Lake complex, Kamchatka Peninsula (Northeastern Siberia): Implications for terminal Pleistocene and early Holocene human migrations in Beringia
Poor People's Experiences of Health Services in Tanzania: A Literature Review
This literature review examines key findings on poor people's experiences of health services and the barriers to access among the very poor. It was first published in 2004 by the Women's Dignity Project/Utu Mwanamke, PO Box 79402, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Sources of archaeological volcanic glass in the Primorye (Maritime) Province, Russian Far East
Sources of archaeological volcanic glass in the Primorye (Maritime) Province, Russian Far East
Geochemical studies of volcanic glasses (obsidians and perlites) from geological outcrops (N = 80) and archaeological collections (N = 110) were performed in order to determine source provenance in Primorye (Russian Far East), using neutron activation analysis and X‐ray fluorescence spectrometry. Three major sources of archaeological volcanic glass were identified, two relatively local and one more remote. Several minor sources detected in the ar…
