  • The case for a Framework for UnderStanding Ice-Ocean iNteractions (Fusion) in the Antarctic-Southern Ocean system

Open Access•Felicity S McCormack, Sue Cook et al.•ARTICLE•Elementa Science of the…•2024

We are in a period of rapidly accelerating change across the Antarctic continent and Southern Ocean, with land ice loss leading to sea level rise and multiple other climate impacts. The ice-ocean interactions that dominate the current ice loss signal are a key underdeveloped area of knowledge. The paucity of direct and continuous observations leads to high uncertainty in the glaciological, oceanographic and atmospheric fields required to constrai…

  • Linking Cave, Mountain, and Sky

    Open Access•Donald A Slater, Donald Slater•ARTICLE•Latin American Antiquity•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 36

In the Maya region scholars have long noted the connection between solar alignments and radial pyramids at sites such as Chickén Itzá, Dzibilchaltún, and Uaxactún. In May 2011 investigations at Ikil revealed that this pyramid also figures in a solar hierophany-the sunrise over the pyramid's summit on the days of the solar z…

Although it was a highly effective tool exploited for practical purposes such as hunting and warfare, ample evidence exists which reveals its association with themes of authority, power, and prestige. The survival of ornamented dart-throwers, as well as the context in which the implement appears in Mesoamerican material cultu…
