  • Some Issues in the Study of the Slab Grave Culture

    Open Access•В В Бобров•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2025

During the Scythian period, the eastern regions of the Eurasian steppe were inhabited by nomadic populations who created the Slab Grave culture. This article raises a number of questions associated with historical and cultural study of this ethnic and political entity of preliterate history. The core issue is the content of the Slab Grave culture which markedly differed from other cultures of Eurasia of the Scythian period. The study confirmed th…

    Open Access•В В Бобров•ARTICLE•Problems of Archaeology…•2024

The article addressed the issues of the time of appearance and duration of the tradition of burials in dwellings in West Siberia. Preliminary conclusions have been made concerning the studies of this issue for the latest twenty-five years except the rite semantics. Many specialists believe that the rite of interment inside dwellings mainly of children appeared in West Siberia in cultures of the latest century of the 3rd–2nd millennia BC. Its orig…

  • Newly Discovered Bronze Artifacts of the Scythian Period From Archekas Mountain, Kuznetsk Alatau

    Open Access•V V Bobrov, В В Бобров et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2017

The borderland between the West Siberian Plain and the Kuznetsk-Salair mountain ridge is a narrow strip of the Mariinsk forest-steppe, which was a transit and contact area between two ancient cultural centers: one on the Upper Ob and the other on the Middle Yenisei. Archaeological finds from that area are especially interesting. One of important geographic features of the Mariinsk forest-steppe is Archekas mountain. About a dozen archaeological s…

  • New Absolute Dates for the Trans-Uralian and Western Siberian Neolithic

    Open Access•Моsin, Mosin et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2017•Cited by: 1

This article deals with the absolute chronology of the Neolithic cultures of the eastern Ural, Middle Irtysh-Baraba, and the Upper Ob basin. Twenty-two new radiocarbon dates for the ceramic assemblages of Trans-Uralian Neolithic and thirteen for those of the western Siberian forest-steppe suggest that Kozlov Mys, Poludenka, and Boborykino sites in the forest-steppe coexisted with those of the Makhandzhar type in eastern Ural and Kazakhstan during…

  • Avtodrom 2 – a Late Neolithic (Artyn Culture) Site in the Baraba Forest-Steppe, Western Siberia

    Open Access•V Bobrov, V V Bobrov et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2017•Cited by: 3

The study addresses cultural and chronological attribution of Avtodrom 2 – the largest and best-known Neolithic site in the foreststeppe zone of Western Siberia. Over eight fi eld seasons (1998, 2004, 2007–2012), excavations focused on its northeastern part, where dwellings with Artyn type of pottery and numerous stone implements were found. We describe ceramics, lithics, habitation and utility structures, and propose to attribute them to the Lat…

  • Self-Control as a Personality Resource: Assessment and Associations with Performance, Persistence and Well-Being

Self-control is one’s ability to control one’s own behavior and emotional expression, to react to external events in a deliberate manner, and to interrupt actions motivated by undesirable impulses or affects. We present two studies aimed to validate a Russian-language version of the 13-item Brief Self-Control Scale by J.P. Tangney, R.F. Baumeister and A.L. Boone in samples of employees (N=591) and students (N=328). Confirmatory factor analysis su…

  • An Anthropomorphic Horn Figurine From the Northern Foothills of the Kuznetsky Alatau, Southern Siberia1

    Open Access•V Bobrov, V V Bobrov et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2015•References: 2

The article introduces an unusual anthropomorphic horn figurine, found out of context in the foothills of the Kuznetsky Alatau and owned by the Tisul local museum, Kemerovo Region. The iconographic and stylistic analysis of the figurine suggests an Okunev attribution (early 2nd millennium BC). Given the archaeological situation in the Kuznetsky Alatau at that time, an Okunev migration is possible. Certain artistic devices have not hitherto been d…

  • Dagger from the late bronze age settlement on the lyuskus river

    Open Access•V Bobrov, V V Bobrov et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeology Ethnology and…•2011•References: 1

The study provides a typological analysis of a dagger found at a Late Bronze Age settlement in Southern Siberia. The dagger has analogues among the same type of weaponry from Southeastern Europe (the Hetin Treasure and incidental fi nds). A sample from the burial of Kovacici-Vinogradi enables daggers of this type to be attributed to the Gava culture. It is suggested that this type of dagger is not typical of Southeastern Europe and that the origi…

New Middle Bronze Age fi nds are described originating in the Achinsk-Mariinsk forest-steppe, southwestern Siberia which represents a contact zone between the Okunev and Samus cultures. A burial discovered near Lake Utinka by local inhabitants, northeastern Kemerovo region, was found to contain steatite beads and unusual pendants in the form of a bear and a bird. The subsequent fi eld survey revealed characteristics of the burial construction and…
