Some old Ila songs and verses
In this article I present some ancient but hitherto unpublished songs of the Ila people of Zambia, recorded by John Price, who worked among the from 1906 to 1934 . I have grouped them according to the situations in which they were sung. They are presented alongside their English versions, together with notes and background material. Attention is drawn to parallels in other cultures in Africa and elsewhere
