  • Stay home

    Open Access•William Davies, W Hobart Davies et al.•ARTICLE•Economy and Society•2024•Cited by: 6•References: 67

This paper argues that a new ‘domestic regime’ has taken hold in Anglo-American economies since 2008. The combination of austere fiscal policy and loose monetary policy produced sustained house-price inflation in an otherwise stagnant economy. This combined with broadband-enabled digital platforms, a highly flexible labour market, and a routinely undervalued social reproductive sector transformed how capitalism operates in these economies. Taking…

Open Access•Amy Lang, Rachel Neff Greenley et al.•ARTICLE•Emerging Adulthood•2020

Emerging adults with chronic health conditions (CHCs) face additional challenges compared to their peers during this transitional period, which can exacerbate their symptoms and negatively impact their quality of life (QoL). This study assessed the impact of CHC status and the potential protective factor of perceived health competence (PHC) on QoL. Nine hundred twenty-nine emerging adults, aged 18–25 years ( M age = 22.19, SD = 1.95; 55% female),…

  • Parent Ethical Concerns About Patient Feedback Measures to Improve Pediatric Clinical Care

Open Access•Paulina S Lim, Amy Lang et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Empirical Research on…•2020•References: 2

There are limited studies evaluating parental willingness to complete patient feedback measures to improve pediatric clinical care. Parents were randomly assigned to read a vignette that varied by parent satisfaction and type of feedback measure. Parents were generally willing to participate in the hypothetical research study aimed to improve their child's clinical care. Parents in the dissatisfied condition invited to participate in a potentiall…

  • Guidelines for Facilitating Parental Prevention Discussions about the Choking Game

    Open Access•W Hobart Davies, Ellen K D Sejkora et al.•ARTICLE•Children & Society•2019

The Choking Game ( TCG ), practiced by adolescents, involves forced asphyxiation to obtain a ‘high’, occasionally causing seizures or death. Few parents report discussing TCG with their child despite their critical role in injury‐prevention. This paper examined parental knowledge of TCG and perceptions of TCG ‐related discussions with their child. From parent responses, eight thematic elements were identified: Risks; Awareness; Peer Context; Exte…

Open Access•Keri R Hainsworth, Kristen Jastrowski Mano et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2016

Tailored pain management strategies are urgently needed for youth with co-occurring chronic pain and obesity; however, prior to developing such strategies, we need to understand parent perspectives on weight in the context of pediatric chronic pain. Participants in this study included 233 parents of patients presenting to a multidisciplinary pediatric chronic pain clinic. Parents completed a brief survey prior to their child's initial appointment…

  • The Impact of Community Violence on Children and Parents

    Open Access•Lori F Phelps, Michael R McCart et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2002

Urban youth are exposed to staggering amounts of community violence, and researchers have identified psychological ramifications associated with this exposure. Yet some have found no relationship between exposure and distress and have argued for habituation. Little attention, however, has focused on how assessment methods have contributed to these conflicting findings. Although most of the research has relied on self-report measures, these assess…
