Many homes throughout the United States contain nonhuman primates who are kept as pets. These private ownerships potentially endanger the pet, their owners, and society as a whole. Using data compiled by the Humane Society of the United States, 238 incidents of attacks and escapes of individuals classified as pets from 2000 to 2020 are examined.
