Constituting Agricultural and Food Security Policy in Malawi: Exploring the Factors that Have Driven Policy Processes in the Farm Inputs Subsidy Programme
Political economy analyses of agricultural and food security policies in Malawi have emphasized the role played by domestic politics and, more specifically, the centralization of power in the executive. This paper builds on this perspective by exploring the view that such policies are in fact negotiated outcomes of interactions at the state-donor interface. Using interview data gathered from expert key informants and a review of publicly availabl…
Post-truth or agnogenesis? Theorizing risk and uncertainty in a neoliberal nature
In the aftermath of the great recession, many have investigated the characteristics of life in a ‘neoliberal nature’. In more recent months, we have also seen an apparent erosion of truth, the ‘post-truth’ moment. This paper argues that there are important and undertheorized links between the risk centrality of life in neoliberal nature and the post-truth moment. Recasting neo-liberalism in the americas: A critique of the preliminary needs assessment of the millennium development goals in the dominican republic
Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the Dominican Republic represents an attempt to recast the neo-liberal project in the Americas. In this article, we illustrate this by analyzing the government's April 2005 report concerning the preliminary needs assessment of what the country would have to accomplish to meet the MDGs by 2015. We conclude the implementation process chosen suffers from a civil society deficit. It privile…
Race, income, and home PC ownership: A regional analysis of the digital divide
The political rhetoric of corporate globalisation and the possibilities for counter‐hegemonic Projects
From government officials through to industry leaders and labour organisers, and now at the community level, the debate about globalisation has had a profound effect on many people's welfare. Despite a burgeoning literature about the necessity of globalisation, for many the growing popularity of this concept in government and industry policy‐making is at best opportunistic and at worst deliberately exploitative. The paper outlines the range of rh…
