A survey distinguished between respondents exposed to firm-created social media communication (FCC) and user-generated social media communication (UGC) to enable empirical comparison, and the moderating role of message credibility was also tested. Structural model analysi…
Social Class, Concern for Face, and Secondhand Products
This research examines social class differences in attitudes toward secondhand products. The results of two studies reveal that social class is negatively associated with secondhand product evaluation. Lower (vs. higher) social class individuals are unfavorable toward secondhand products. The degree of concern for face, furthermore, moderates the relationship between social class and attitudes toward secondhand products. Specifically, social clas…

Understanding green regional path development
This paper addresses the gaps in understanding green regional path development and the role of firm-level agency in driving regional green transitions. By analysing a large patent dataset covering 30 years, we provide a systematic account of green regional path development in 70 regions across four Nordic countries. Østergaard C. R. and Park E. What makes clusters decline? A study on disruption and evolution of a high-tech cluster in Denmark, Regional Studies. Most studies on regional clusters focus on identifying factors and processes that make clusters grow. However, sometimes technologies and market conditions suddenly shift, and clusters decline. This paper analyses the process of decline of the wireless communication cluster in Denmark. The longitudinal…
Gender as a Moderator in the Association of Body Weight to Smoking and Mental Health
Objectives. I sought to examine gender's role as a moderator in the association of relative body weight to smoking and mental health. Methods. Data came from the 2004–2005 Minnesota Survey on Adult Substance Use, a statewide telephone survey (N = 16 289). Current smoking and mental health problems were examined in relation to relative body weight across genders, with control for covariates. Results. Relative to their healthy-weight counterparts, …

The Effects of Data Collection Mode and Disclosure on Adolescent Reporting of Health Behavior
This study examined how information obtained from an adolescent screening instrument administered in a medical clinic is affected by the method of data collection and knowledge that a summary report would be given to the provider. The Adolescent Health Review (AHR) was administered to 610 adolescent patients randomly assigned to 1 of 3 conditions to test the effect of mode of administration (paper vs. computer) and disclosure of results to the pr…
Community involvement and risk perception at personal and societal levels
Some risk perception studies suggest that personal and societal level risk judgements are distinct and largely separate, and people do not necessarily draw personal implications from their general views about society. This study explores the role of community involvement in people's risk judgements at personal and societal levels. Using risk judgements about four health issueswater contaminants, radon, AIDS and heart diseasewe examined if communi…
Presidential Support During the Iran-Contra Affair
This study focused on the reasoning process through which people decided whether to support President Reagan during the Iran-Contra affair, and the role of the media in that reasoning process. Content analyses of network news showed that the media framed the Iran-Contra affair, with a high level of salience, as a valence issue (the Reagan administration's complicity in the secret dealing) rather than a position issue (the affair's international p…
