A 24-week physical activity program implemented in long-term care facilities during Covid-19: Effects on functional fitness in older adults over 70
Healthy aging emphasizes the maintenance of optimal physical functioning. As older adults age, they may experience muscle loss and decline in physical abilities, which can lead to a greater need for long-term care services. This loss of independence may result in reduced opportunities for social engagement, including learning and participation in various programs. Therefore, this study aims to implement a long-term physical activity program and i…
Effect of Ridge Height, Row Grade, and Field Slope on Nutrient Losses in Runoff in Contour Ridge Systems under Seepage with Rainfall Condition
Seepage plays a key role in nutrient loss and easily occurs in widely-used contour ridge systems due to the ponding process. However, the characteristics of nutrient loss and its influential factors under seepage with rainfall condition in contour ridge systems are still unclear. In this study, 23 seepage and rainfall simulation experiments are arranged in an orthogonal rotatable central composite design to investigate the role of ridge height, r…
Southern Min m in discourse
This study investigates a putative case of negative concord in Southern Min where two negatives (m'not' and bian 'need.not') co-occur without canceling each other out semantically. Contra common belief, I argue that Southern Min does not have negative concord. Corpus data on m-bian and m-tioh are examined, where tioh 'need' and bian are necessity modal counterparts. Corpus findings reveal that negativity in m participates in neither m-bian nor m-…
The Making of the First Chinese-English Dictionary: Robert Morrison’s Dictionary of the Chinese Language in Three Parts (1815-1823)
The first printed Chinese-English dictionary was the Dictionary of the Chinese Language in Three Parts compiled by Robert Morrison (1782-1834) published between 1815 and 1823. Two hundred years later it is still in use. This paper traces the tradition of missionary bilingual lexicography in China from its origins down to Morrison. While early manuscript bilingual dictionaries solved the problems of transliteration, alphabetical arrangement of Chi…
