A higher mortality in men compared to women with heart failure in primary care and ejection fraction equal to or more than 40
The aim of this study was to describe gender-related differences in characteristics and mortality in heart failure (HF) patients managed in primary care (PC). We included 1802 hF patients aged 77.5 ± 8.8 years (47% women) with ejection fraction (EF) ≥ 40% from the Swedish Heart Failure (SwedeHF) registry. The patients were divided by gender, and by heart failure with mildly reduced ejection fraction (HFmrEF; EF 40–49%) or heart failure with prese…

Simply the best? The impact of quality on choice of primary healthcare provider in Sweden
OBJECTIVE: One of the more important objectives with the patient choice reform, introducing non-price competition in Swedish primary healthcare, was to improve performance and quality of care. However, in order for choice to lead to quality improvements, citizens need to consider quality aspects in their choices of provider. We hypothesize that quality of care influences choice of provider and the objective of this study is to investigate if citi…
High Variability in Implementation of Selective-Prevention Services for Cardiometabolic Diseases in Five European Primary Care Settings
(1) Background: Cardiometabolic diseases are the most common cause of death worldwide. As part of a collaborative European study, this paper aims to explore the implementation of primary care selective-prevention services in five European countries. We assessed the implementation process of the selective-prevention services, participants' cardiometabolic profile and risk and participants' evaluation of the services, in terms of feasibility and im…
Coping strategies among patients newly diagnosed with diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis at baseline and after 24 months
Patients aged 18-65 years with newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus ( n = 89) or rheumatoid arthritis ( n = 100) were studied by the General Coping Questionnaire at baseline and after 24 months. In total, 34 diabetes mellitus and 46 rheumatoid arthritis patients were diagnosed with psychosocial problems. The use of negative coping strategies, such as protest, isolation, and intrusion, was associated mostly with being classified as having psychosocia…
Diagnoses of sexual abuse and their common registered comorbidities in the total population of Stockholm
BACKGROUND: Prior research based on self-reports has proven sexual abuse to be a risk factor for pain and psychiatric disorders. However, less is known about how this is reflected within the healthcare system. The aim of this study was to study the 2-year prevalence of diagnosis of sexual abuse and concomitant conditions. METHODS: Using data from VAL, the study population included all living persons in Stockholm County, Sweden, between 1 January …

High prevalence of diagnosis of diabetes, depression, anxiety, hypertension, asthma and COPD in the total population of Stockholm, Sweden – a challenge for public health
The prevalence of common diseases in the population can be estimated by combining data gathered during consecutive years from primary care, specialist outpatient care and inpatient care. However, accuracy of disease prevalence is highly dependent on the quality of the data. The high prevalence of the six diagnoses analysed in this study calls for preventive action to minimize suffering and costs to society
Prevalence of lipid abnormalities before and after introduction of lipid modifying therapy among Swedish patients with dyslipidemia (PRIMULA)
Focusing therapy on LDL-C reduction allows 40% of patients to achieve LDL-C goal and helps reducing triglyceride levels. Almost 60% of patients experience persistent HDL-C and/or triglyceride abnormality independently of LDL-C levels and could be candidates for additional treatments

Self-Reported Anxiety, Sleeping Problems and Pain Among Turkish-Born Immigrants in Sweden
Being a Turkish-born immigrant in Sweden significantly increases the risks for self-reported anxiety, sleeping problems and severe pain, even after adjusting for age and socio-economic status (education, marital status and employment)
Are there differences in all-cause and coronary heart disease mortality between immigrants in Sweden and in their country of birth? A follow-up study of total populations
The all-cause mortality risk was lower in the majority of immigrant groups in Sweden than in their country of birth. The differences in CHD mortality risks were more complex. For countries with high CHD mortality, such as Finland and Hungary, the risk was lower among immigrants in Sweden than in their country of birth. For low-risk countries in South Europe, the risk was higher in immigrants in Sweden than in South Europe
