Pilot evaluation of an innovative school-based mental health literacy program for teachers and students
Mental health literacy interventions in school settings are growing in number and scope, yet challenges in user engagement and real-world implementation persist. The Decode Mental Health and Wellbeing Program (Decode) is a novel and innovative mental health literacy program for teachers and students that harnesses the power of social media platform-style content delivery and lived experience influencers to engage young people. Using a multi-site,…
Executive function mediates the prospective association between neurostructural differences within the central executive network and anti‐social behavior after childhood traumatic brain injury
BACKGROUND: Despite increasing evidence of a link between early life brain injury and anti-social behavior, very few studies have assessed factors that explain this association in children with traumatic brain injury (TBI). One hypothesis suggests that childhood TBI elevates risk for anti-social behavior via disruption to anatomically distributed neural networks implicated in executive functioning (EF). In this longitudinal prospective study, we …
Quality of life in parents of seriously Ill/injured children
Feasibility and acceptability of an online acceptance and commitment therapy group for parents caring for a child with cerebral palsy
This study explored the feasibility and acceptability of a videoconferencing group psychotherapy intervention for parents of children living with cerebral palsy. A six-session Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention called Take a Breath was provided. Participants were 26 parents of children aged 12 months to nine years, with severe cerebral palsy. Parents responded to questionnaires at three time-points; baseline, pre-intervention, a…
Progress in adolescent health and wellbeing
BACKGROUND: Rapid demographic, epidemiological, and nutritional transitons have brought a pressing need to track progress in adolescent health. Here, we present country-level estimates of 12 headline indicators from the Lancet Commission on adolescent health and wellbeing, from 1990 to 2016. METHODS: Indicators included those of health outcomes (disability-adjusted life-years [DALYs] due to communicable, maternal, and nutritional diseases; injuri…
Parental distress in response to childhood medical trauma
This study explored the relationship between individual and family-level risk in predicting longer-term parental distress following their child’s unexpected diagnosis of serious illness. A mediation model was tested, whereby parents’ pre-existing psychosocial risk predicts longer-term posttraumatic stress symptoms, indirectly through parents’ acute stress response. One hundred and thirty-two parents of 104 children participated. Acute stress resp…
