A Phenomenological Investigation of Interdisciplinary Mental Health Collaboration in Schools
BACKGROUND: Youth mental health concerns are rising, with schools key access points for support. Interdisciplinary collaboration among school mental health professionals (SMHPs) is vital for addressing complex needs but is often hindered by role ambiguity, staffing shortages, and systemic barriers. This study explored SMHPs' lived collaboration experiences in U.S. public schools. METHODS: Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, semi-struct…
Framework of Core Competencies for Interdisciplinary School Mental Health Collaboration
BACKGROUND: School mental health professionals (SMHPs) address complex student needs, yet collaboration is often hindered by role ambiguity, inconsistent preparation, and lack of consensus-based competencies. This study identified core competencies for effective interdisciplinary collaboration in K-12 schools. METHODS: A three-round Delphi study involved 47 SMHPs, including school counselors, psychologists, social workers, and therapists. Panelis…
Impact of stressful death or divorce in people with HIV
This study examined the impact of a stressful death/divorce on psychological and immune outcomes in people with HIV. People with HIV with stressful death/divorce were examined from before the event to up to 12 months later ( n = 45); controls were assessed at similar intervals ( n = 112). Stressful deaths/divorces were associated with increased viral load and anxiety over time ( ps ≤ .014), but not CD4+ or depression. Increased use of religious c…
Disrupting gender norms in health systems
Gender norms and health
Gender equality and gender norms
Gender inequality and restrictive gender norms
Improving health with programmatic, legal, and policy approaches to reduce gender inequality and change restrictive gender norms
Does addressing gender inequalities and empowering women and girls improve health and development programme outcomes
This article presents evidence supporting the hypothesis that promoting gender equality and women's and girls' empowerment (GEWE) leads to better health and development outcomes. We reviewed the literature across six sectors-family planning (FP); maternal, newborn and child health (MNCH); nutrition; agriculture; water, sanitation and hygiene; and financial services for the poor-and found 76 studies from low and middle-income countries that met ou…
Taking on the gender challenge in organisations
Clear patterns emerged and are summarised on conditions for success in integrating a gender equality perspective across organisational programmes and culture. In short, organisations should consider five key ‘ingredients’ when designing their approach to integrating a gender equality perspective: (1) have a clear vision of success with measurable indicators; (2) have high-level, consistent, visible support; (3) take an intentional approach deeply…
Newborn health
Despite advances in issue-attention and in evidence of what works to save newborn lives (e.g., kangaroo mother care, antenatal corticosteroids, immediate and exclusive breastfeeding), we are still falling short on impact. To advance the unfinished newborn survival agenda, newborns must become an integral priority in developing countries where the burden of neonatal mortality is highest. Interventions must be adapted to local contexts and cultures…
Groundwater dependent ecosystems. Part II. Ecosystem services and management in Europe under risk of climate change and land use intensification
Groundwater in sufficient amounts and of suitable quality is essential for potable water supplies, crop irrigation and healthy habitats for plant and animal biocenoses. The groundwater resource is currently under severe pressure from land use and pollution and there is evidence of dramatic changes in aquifer resources in Europe and elsewhere, despite numerous policy measures on sustainable use and protection of groundwater. Little is known about …
