  • Exploring the Effects of Tasks with Different Decision-Making Levels on Ball Control, Passing Performance, and External Load in Youth Football

Open Access•Diogo Coutinho, Adam L Kelly et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

This study aimed to understand how the design of decision-making tasks affects youth football players' ball control, passing performance, and external load. A total of 16 male youth football players (age: 12.94 ± 0.25 years) competed in various tasks based on the following levels of decision-making: (i) low decision-making (Low DM), which consisted of a predefined ball control and passing sequence; (ii) moderate decision-making (Mod DM), which co…

  • Level of opposition constrains offensive performance in consecutive game situations. An analysis according to game principles

Alba Práxedes, David Pizarro et al.•ARTICLE•Physical Education and Sport…•2022

Background In the last few decades, Nonlinear Pedagogy (NLP) has emerged with the goal to promote a holistic approach through the use of Small-Sided Games (SSG), to optimize specific tactical defensive and offensive behaviours of players. These SSG are designed through the manipulation of relevant task constraints. Specifically, the balance on the number of outfield players is a constraint that has been recently studied because it can change play…

  • Disgust sensitivity relates to attitudes toward gay men and lesbian women across 31 nations

    Open Access•Florian Van Leeuwen, Yoel Inbar et al.•ARTICLE•Group Processes & Intergroup…•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 17

Previous work has reported a relation between pathogen-avoidance motivations and prejudice toward various social groups, including gay men and lesbian women. It is currently unknown whether this association is present across cultures, or specific to North America. Analyses of survey data from adult heterosexuals ( N = 11,200) from 31 countries showed a small relation between pathogen disgust sensitivity (an individual-difference measure of pathog…

  • Making molehills out of mountains: Removing moral meaning from prior immoral actions

    Open Access•Chelsea Helion, Adrian F Ward et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Behavioral Decision…•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 6

At some point in their lives, most people have told a lie, intentionally hurt someone else, or acted selfishly at the expense of another. Despite knowledge of their moral failings, individuals are often able to maintain the belief that they are moral people. This research explores one mechanism by which this paradoxical process occurs: the tendency to represent one's past immoral behaviors in concrete or mechanistic terms, thus stripping the acti…

  • How the Number of Players and Floaters’ Positioning Changes the Offensive Performance during Futsal Small-Sided and Conditioned Games

Open Access•David A Pizarro, David Pizarro et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

This study aims to analyse the effects of floater positioning within futsal Gk + 3vs3 + Gk and Gk + 2vs2 + Gk small-sided and conditioned games (SSCG) on youth offensive performance on an action per minute per player basis. Three experimental conditions were carried out through the manipulation of floater positioning: floaters off (FO), final line floaters (FLF) and lateral floaters (LF). Thirty male futsal players (U19 age category) participated…

  • Parasite stress and pathogen avoidance relate to distinct dimensions of political ideology across 30 nations

Open Access•Joshua M Tybur, Yoel Inbar et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2016

Significance Pathogens, and antipathogen behavioral strategies, affect myriad aspects of human behavior. Recent findings suggest that antipathogen strategies relate to political attitudes, with more ideologically conservative individuals reporting more disgust toward pathogen cues, and with higher parasite stress nations being, on average, more conservative. However, no research has yet adjudicated between two theoretical accounts proposed to exp…

  • Disgust Sensitivity, Political Conservatism, and Voting

Open Access•Yoel Inbar, David A Pizarro et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychological and…•2012

In two large samples (combined N = 31,045), we found a positive relationship between disgust sensitivity and political conservatism. This relationship held when controlling for a number of demographic variables as well as the “Big Five” personality traits. Disgust sensitivity was also associated with more conservative voting in the 2008 U.S. presidential election. In Study 2, we replicated the disgust sensitivity–conservatism relationship in an i…

  • Detecting the Trustworthiness of Novel Partners in Economic Exchange

    Open Access•David Desteno, Cynthia Breazeal et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Science•2012•Cited by: 23•References: 5

Because trusting strangers can entail high risk, an ability to infer a potential partner's trustworthiness would be highly advantageous. To date, however, little evidence indicates that humans are able to accurately assess the cooperative intentions of novel partners by using nonverbal signals. In two studies involving human-human and human-robot interactions, we found that accuracy in judging the trustworthiness of novel partners is heightened t…

  • Message Framing and Pap Test Utilization among Women Attending a Community Health Clinic

    Open Access•Susan E River, Susan E Rivers et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2005•Cited by: 10•References: 18

In a randomized experiment, women ( N = 441) watched either a loss- or gain-framed video emphasizing the prevention or detection functions of the Pap test to test the hypothesis that loss- and gain-framed messages differentially influence health behaviors depending on the risk involved in performing the behavior. As predicted, loss-framed messages emphasizing the costs of not detecting cervical cancer early (a risky behavior) and gain-framed mess…

  • Asymmetry in Judgments of Moral Blame and Praise: The Role of Perceived Metadesires

    Open Access•David A Pizarro, David Pizarro et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Science•2003

An important consideration in judging the blameworthiness (or praiseworthiness) of an action is whether the agent had sufficient control over it. In three experiments, we investigated judgments of moral blame and praise elicited when individuals were presented with vignettes describing actions that were performed either carefully and deliberately or impulsively and uncontrollably. Experiment 1 uncovered an asymmetry between judgments of positive …
