Youth-led resistance to police-centred safety perpetuated by the Chicago board of education
This article draws from a Cultural Political Economy framework and an abolitionist lens to examine various understandings of safety within Chicago Public Schools (CPS). We investigate how the Chicago Board of Education (BOE) uses convivial rhetoric and institutional mechanisms to erase the demands of Black and Brown students and ultimately reinforce a police-centred notion of safety. Immigrant and U.S.-born migrant farmworkers: Dual paths to discrimination-related health outcomes
values < .05). Simply comparing Latino groups across U.S. nativity may paper over important differences in how they arrive at those health outcomes, including that immigration-related concerns may exacerbate exposure to and severity of discrimination, which in turn leads to negative health outcomes. On the other hand, discrimination itself may account for numerous negative health outcomes more directly for U.S.-born Latinos. (PsycInfo Database Re…
The influence of teaching philosophy on coverage of LGBTQ issues in counseling courses
Counselor educators (N = 205) were surveyed on their teaching philosophy, coverage of LGBTQ issues in counseling courses, participant characteristics, and LGBTQ clinical skill using web‐based methods. Regression analysis identified that rating adult education as important predicted coverage of LGBTQ issues. Implications, limitations, and future directions are discussed
Structured Peer Feedback Exchange in Group Supervision of Beginning Supervisors
We examined the scope of peer feedback exchanged during group supervision of beginning supervisors throughout a semester-long doctoral-level experiential counseling supervision course. Concept mapping revealed 13 clusters representing five areas of beginning supervisors' peer feedback. Supervisors of supervisors and supervisor training programs may use these results to structure experiential supervision experiences
Relationship satisfaction trajectories among low-income ethnic minority couples before and after a relationship education intervention
This study examined relationship satisfaction trajectories of low-income ethnic minority couples from a preintervention assessment to the fifth assessment at 120 days after enrollment in the relationship education intervention. Analysis included covariates of employment status, income, years of education, and length of relationship in the trajectories. The researchers drew the 5 waves of data from 728 couples who participated in a large, 4-year, …
Factor Analysis and Construction of the Acceptance of Couple Violence Scale
We examined the construction for a modified Acceptance of Couple Violence (ACV) scale administered to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer college students (N = 266) measuring intimate partner violence. We ran an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis; results identified 1 factor for the instrument explaining 76% of the variance in scores for all items
Family Adjustment Measure: Scale Construction and Validation
We administered the Family Adjustment Measure to 368 parents of children with special needs to identify positive adjustment. We randomly split the sample to conduct exploratory factor analysis (n = 194) and confirmatory factor analysis (n = 174). Results indicated four possible subscales and that explain 51% of the variance. © 2014 The Author(s)
