    This mediated collaborative autoethnography uses reproduced dialogue, poetic inquiry, and composite, fictionalized narratives to story the gendered experiences of two instructional faculty teaching a coordinated engineering class and working in an undergraduate engineering program at a large public university.     This collaborative tale of a daughter and mother offers multiple stories of the two matriarchs in our family, our relationships with them, and the lessons we take from our narrative lives about how we are to be as family members, and how we are to be as family aging with dementia.     This interpretive study utilized a dialectical framework to explore themes that emerged in interviews with grandparents engaged in raising their grandchildren full-time (i.e. surrogate parents).
