An examination of predictors of nonverbal and verbal communication of pleasure during sex and sexual satisfaction
This study examined a model in which sexual communication apprehension and sexual self-esteem were expected to predict individuals' verbal and nonverbal communication of pleasure during sex, which in turn were expected to predict participants' sexual satisfaction. The data produced support for five of the six hypothesized relationships. Nonverbal communication during sex fully mediated the relationship between sexual self-esteem and sexual satisf…
The Relationships Between Parent Communication Patterns and Sons' and Daughters' Intimate Partner Violence Involvement
This study examined the communication patterns of parents and how they related to intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration and victimization among young adult children. One hundred and ninety-three undergraduate students and 287 parents participated in this study. Hypothesis One predicted that parental conformity orientation would predict sons' and daughters' reports of IPV perpetration and victimization, whereas Hypothesis Two predicted that…
Emotional investment
This study examined the utility of the investment model in understanding the experience and expression of emotion in young adult friendships (179 undergraduate students). The results provide support for the utility of the investment model components (i.e., satisfaction, investment, alternative quality, and commitment) in understanding (a) friends' anger and guilt experiences and (b) the four types of anger expression examined (i.e., integrative a…
