  • Individual differences in the way observers perceive humour styles

Open Access•R J Brown, Bruce Findlay et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Humour Research•2019•References: 8

Humour has been conceptualized as styles, which vary based on their function (Martin, Puhlik-Doris, Larsen, Gray, and Weir, 2003). Research examining if and how observers perceive this intent is limited. The current study addresses this research gap by examining the perceptions of Martin et al.’s (2003) four humour styles. Additionally and of particular interest, was whether self-defeating humour and another self-directed humour style, self-depre…

  • The Short Internalized Homonegativity Scale

    Open Access•Matthew R Currie, Everarda G Cunningham et al.•ARTICLE•Educational and Psychological…•2004

The purpose of the study was to develop a short measure of internalized homophobia (IH), one that reflected contemporary attitudes toward homosexuality and included items designed to assess the domain of sexual comfort with gay men, a domain that has been notably absent from other measures of IH. The Short Internalized Homonegativity Scale (SIHS) was informed by the Reactions to Homosexuality Scale (RHS) and the contention that currently availabl…

  • A psychometric evaluation of the irrational beliefs inventory in a marital context

    Open Access•Anne J Woodward, Sally A Carless et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Psychologist•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 2

The measurement of irrational beliefs has been problematic because of contamination by neuroticism, low reliability, and poor factor structure. Koopmans, Sanderson, Timmerman, and Emmelkamp (1994) developed the Irrational Beliefs Inventory (IBI) to address these issues. As yet, few studies have validated its properties. The current study investigated the psychometric properties of the IBI with an Australian, married sample (N = 127). The findings…
