    Victoria Ka-Ying Hui, Victoria Ka‐ying Hui et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2012•Cited by: 4

This suggests that not all religious afterlife beliefs have death anxiety buffering power as proposed by Terror Management Theory,…

  • Target's face loss, motivations, and forgiveness following relational transgression

    Open Access•Victoria Ka-Ying Hui, Victoria Ka‐ying Hui et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2009•Cited by: 12•References: 45

We proposed that, following a transgression, as a victim's perceived face loss increased, the victim would show (i) less forgiveness towards the perpetrator; (ii) increased motivation to retaliate; and (iii) reduced desire to maintain the damaged relationship. Moreover, an interdependent self-construal was hypothesized to strengthen these associations. Results from Hong Kong Chinese and American university students revealed that greater face loss…

    Victoria Ka-Ying Hui, Victoria Ka‐ying Hui et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2008•Cited by: 9•References: 9

Fear of dying and death may be universal, but individuals differ in their emotional reactions to dying and death. The present study included a sample of 133 Chinese university students who were Christians. The authors tested a mediation model which posited that intrinsic religiosity, but not extrinsic religiosity, lowered anxiety toward the dying and death of self and someone close through fostering perceived purpose in life. Structural Equation …

Death ideation and death anxiety represent the cognitive and affective dimensions of death attitudes, respectively. General beliefs about the world are proposed to be useful defensive mechanisms protecting persons against the death anxiety provoked by death ideation. SEM is employed to test the proposed mediation model, using a sample of 133 Hong Kong Chinese university students. Results showed that death ideation was significantly and inversely …
