  • Environment, land use, and archaeology in the north-central German Lower Mountain Range during the Younger and Late Neolithic

    Open Access•Magda Wieckowska-Lüth, Magda Wieckowska‐lüth et al.•ARTICLE•Praehistorische Zeitschrift•2026

Palynological, macroremain, and sedimentological analyses of a well-dated, high-resolution sediment profile from the Körbecker Bruch have enabled a detailed reconstruction of the land-use history in a fertile loess landscape during the Younger and the Late Neolithic. The results indicate that already around 4700 cal. BCE, agriculture, animal husbandry, and slash-and-burn techniques, as elements of the subsistence economy, had significantly shaped…

  • Late and Final Neolithic Land Use Reconstructions Based on Floodplain Deposits from the ‘Nachtweide’ Site in Hesse, Central Germany – a Challenge for Palynology

    Open Access•Magda Wieckowska-Lüth, Magda Wieckowska‐lüth et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2026•Referências: 47

This study reconstructs land use history with a focus on the Late and Final Neolithic using palynological data from floodplain deposits in the state of Hesse, central Germany. Our results demonstrate that humans were using the surrounding landscape continuously from the onset of the Michelsberg culture to the transition to the Bronze Age. However, a noticeable decline in human impact was shown during the transitional stage between the Michelsberg…

  • On the border between land and water

    Open Access•Piotr Kittel, A N Mazurkevich et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2020•Citada por: 9•Referências: 17

The paper presents the results of a palaeoecological study of Neolithic archaeological layers from a wetland, multilayer site, Serteya II (Western Russia). It contains, domestic structures, rich organic artefacts, skeletons, and ecofacts preserved within lacustrine deposits that are extremely important on a European scale. We employed a set of specialised palaeoecological analyses and accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon dating to identify t…
