Monitoring, reporting, and verification of marine carbon dioxide removal
Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal (mCDR) approaches are increasingly considered for climate change mitigation as a supplement to rapid emissions reduction. However, it is still unclear if mCDR approaches could be effective, safe, and accountable. A critical requirement for mCDR to work, potentially, is robust monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas(es) removed through mCDR activities. MRV frameworks and protocols are currently…
Integrating Indigenous and Local Knowledge into Community Capitals to Enhance Income Security
Introduction.
Introduction
This overview challenges the commonly accepted notion that Pacific societies are all doomed to an uncertain near and distant future despite their inherently different exposures to, experiences of, and attitudes to climate change. It also recognizes that the scientific narrative of climate change acts as a catalyst for new regional alliances and movements aiming to take proactive climate action, from the global to the local levels. We therefore ad…
Genetic Evidence for Modifying Oceanic Boundaries Relative to Fiji
We present the most comprehensive genetic characterization to date of five Fijian island populations: Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Kadavu, the Lau Islands, and Rotuma, including nonrecombinant Y (NRY) chromosome and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplotypes and haplogroups. As a whole, Fijians are genetically intermediate between Melanesians and Polynesians, but the individual Fijian island populations exhibit significant genetic structure reflecting differ…
