  • Monitoring mineralogical and porosity transformations in modern Hebron ceramics caused by salt whitening agent using non-invasive methods

Open Access•Nadia Cantin, Laura Teodorescu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•Referencias: 29

Micro-CT highlights the effects of adding sodium chloride salt on ceramic porosity and the redistribution of pores. • SWIR Hyperspectral Imaging allows the observation of phase changes resulting from variations in ceramic firing temperatures. • SWIR Hyperspectral Imaging presents great potential for determining firing temperatures using non-destructive tools. A field investigation conducted among potters in Hebron (Palestinian Territories) reveal…

  • Archaeometrical study of ceramic materials from the Chupícuaro culture (Formative Period, Mesoamerica)

Open Access•Fanny Alloteau, Ayed Ben Amara et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2025•Referencias: 19

This study investigated the Chupícuaro ceramic production in Formative Mesoamerica through geochemical and petrographic examinations of a large set of Chupícuaro ceramic vessel sherds. The results are consistent with local domestic production using locally available resources, both for clays and for pigments of the painted decorations. Several production sites with their own sources of raw materials would have co‐existed in the Acámbaro Valley, c…

  • Mineralogical transformations due to salt whitening agent in modern Hebron ceramics

  • Technological investigation on ceramic bodies of 19th century French white earthenware from the Bordeaux region

Open Access•Emmie Beauvoit, Ayed Ben Amara et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2020•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 5

In Gironde, the archaeological levels dated between the 9th and 13th centuries frequently yield the remains of a very special ceramic. Its appearance earned it the colloquial name of “ nougatine ”. Of a composite nature, it combines large angular fragments of chamotte (crushed fired clay) with a clayey cement of cream to red ocher color (fig. 1). This association confers low cohesive strength which explains a high fragmentation rate. This type of…

  • Manganese and iron oxide use at Combe-Grenal (Dordogne, France)

  • NMR as a new tool for cultural heritage application

    Open Access•A Gutiérrez Garcia‐M, M C Savin et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2019•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 15

Identifying the origin of marble used in antiquity brings back to light details of the economic, social and political organization of classical societies, and characterizing in depth the chemistry of marble is key to discovering its provenance. Beyond X‐ray diffraction, which could reveal the presence of discriminant secondary crystalline phases and the quantification of accessory minerals combined with a multivariate analysis approach, solid‐sta…

  • A novel interdisciplinary approach for building archaeology

    Open Access•Petra Urbanová, A Michel et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2018•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 6

This paper deals with new strategies for dating the construction of ancient monuments, one of the most topical issues in archaeology. Our approach is demonstrated by the study of an emblematic early medieval Basilica Saint Seurin in Bordeaux whose oldest building phases have never been well-understood and dated before due to the lack of written sources and archaeological findings. We mainly focus on the analyses of mortar as an omnipresent and no…

  • The Origin of the use of the Tin-Glazed Earthenware Technique in the Production of the French Medieval Pavement of Suscinio

Open Access•Laetitia Métreau, Nadia Cantin et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2017•Referencias: 7

The medieval pavement found in its original state and place at the Breton castle of Suscinio is an interesting case study for answering questions about the origin of the tin-glazed earthenware technique in France. Twenty-eight decorated tiles (with transparent and tin-opacified glazes) and eight clayey raw materials were examined using chemical and microstructural approaches involving petrographic, SEM–EDS and XRD analyses. By combining the resul…
